banna Posted May 25, 2011 Share Has anyone tried a Maxxis Monorail on the back wheel? I've always had them as a front tyre and the Crossmark at the back on my XC bike, but maybe the Monorail will be just as lekker as a rear tyre? Lemme know. davetapson Posted May 25, 2011 Share Had one on the back and found that it lost traction under hard braking on tar. Was fine on dirt tho.Dunno if that is important to you.

I try to stay away from the black stuff. My mtbike develops a serious allergic reaction whenever I get to close to any form of asphalt.
Sawdust Posted May 25, 2011 Share My racing wheels have them front and rear. Not bad at all. Does not like mud too much. They last a bit longer than the crossmark.

They probably have a bit more rolling resistance than the Crossmark's, but maybe better grip?
Skott5 Posted May 25, 2011 Share I'm running one at the back at the moment. Jury is still out for me, but intial feeling is that it isn't as grippy as the crossmark on out the saddle climbs.
Help.Me. Posted May 25, 2011 Share I found that the sidewall is a bit on the thin side......but i am a bit on the heavy side 105kg...
Sawdust Posted May 25, 2011 Share They might not be as grippy as a brand new crossmark, but are more consistant over its lifetime. A half worn crossmark is slippery like hell.
georges Posted May 25, 2011 Share Stick with what you have. Crossmark rear and Monorail front (tubelesss). Have tried all combinations and found this to be the best. Slippery over roots and rocks when wet though. What tyre pressures are you guys using?? Thanks.

Breezer Posted May 25, 2011 Share I think monorail is the worst tire i have ever tried in my life.I use them currently on my bike. Useless in thick sand and wet. Very nice on tar . I will never buy them again.
pauloc Posted May 25, 2011 Share Mini-hijack... Anyone got any thoughts on the Ignitors in comparison to the Monorail? I'm running as Ignitor at the moment on the front with a Crossmark on the rear and am quite happy, but just want to see what all the fuss is about with the Monorails?? Jaco-fiets Posted May 25, 2011 Share I have used them in the past. I liked them. Friend of mine did the epic with them. He ran the non tubeless as tubeless and did not have any problems. Good value for money
Bos Posted May 25, 2011 Share I think monorail is the worst tire i have ever tried in my life. I rode the foldable converted to tubliss for 18months, stood up but I found it especially bad on lose over hardpack type of stuff, the treads were not deep enough. but weighed 480g. I rode a Raceking UST at the back and found it faast! Im now riding Specialised I cant remember the names shows how much I ride these days. Rear Is fast track front Shauserwind, looks like XC highrollers, and nice light. I diggit. grips well in wet and dry, might roll slightly slower tahn monorail but much more predictable grip. nice for winter aswell. Biggest problem with converting non tubliss tires are that they lack stability in hard turns, unless you run the thing rockhard which kind of defeats the whole perpose. Monorail had lower rolling resistance and weighs about 60g less than crossmarks.Crossmarks are tough as hell but weigh a tonne. I only weigh 65kg, so I dont need the extra protection, mind you. Underachiever Posted May 25, 2011 Share I think monorail is the worst tire i have ever tried in my life. Wow Rode the Epic, Barberton and many other races/routes with Monorails (UST 2.1) and NEVER had ANY issues, no punctures, nothing!! Haven't doe a major muddy race with them for obvious reasons. My Epic buddy will tell u the same. He also tried the Crossmark at the back and loves it.
