Whats it going to take to get the five old ladies to do a great job for us cyclists, at this stage I'm sure they'll do a sterling job, If they can manage a battle like the SPCA, imagine how well they'll do for us. Big UP to they Girls

Saw a tiny one inch cover up press release in the sports pages of the Sunday Times last Sunday -"CSA forensic report released"- did`nt even have the courage to say Cycling South Africa..rather CSA like who the hell know`s who CSA is? A cover up.The entire executive team should make a move,Barry took over when the crap had already hit the fan,He is a highly qualified dude but a good leader is a little helpless when surrounded by a cartell of idiots! The comedy of errors by organization is a joke. I vote that the UCI bans the CSA`s membership, and that a new outfit starts from scratch ...in the meantime I will be pursuing my cycling ambitions internationally!!!

It probably means incompetence. To get lotto funding is fairly simple. Follow a set of rules in providing information and audited accounts etc, and collect. Our local SPCA with a committee of 5 old women (my wife at 54 is by far the youngest) collects lotto funding like clockwork every year.

Yeah, I would tend to agree, I dont know much about Lotto funding so thats why I asked, but I would also guess that had the correct channels been followed and all the necessary paperwork was in order it would have been forthcoming.

:( Cricket South Africa (CSA) is also up to it's neck in management problems.

This whole issue really bugs me - a few year back Recreational cycling was a totally separate entity from pro cycling - PPA's ran the former and SACF the latter, and despite some creaming off the top, everything seemed to work reasonably well - SACF always seemed to be able to afford to send riders to world champs and other International events (at least in ladies, U23 and elite cats) and PPA's did there thing ok.

Only since the the combining of these into CSA have serious financial and "other" problems arisen, in my opinion due to lack of competance to cover all cycling aspects.

I would strongly support a move to revert back to separate entities for recreational and pro cycling!

What has changed since SACF? The faces change but the script the Goons follown is the same, and we elect them, sounds very similar to ANC politics.

I agree with this.

CSA/SACF should concentrate on Olympic-ready cyclists. 200+ km races, week long stage races, youth development, empowerment, etc.

PPA should concentrate on fun events, and cycling awareness.

The requirements are completely different.

so then we would only have recreational event in the Cape because thats the only region that the ppa operates in.

well, this brings up the whole debacle of what we as "the garden variety" cyclist is getting for our license fees? (other than being out of pocket)

why do i have to subsidize national or even international events, if i get absolutely nothing for it.

I will probably get fed the whole: "bringing the sport to the people".. and "Helping to develop the sport" BS

problem i have with the whole thing is, i don't have a choice but to pay my license fees, if i want to partake in a race. But i aint getting Shite for it... if i am paying, i at least want to know that my money is in good hands, being applied to important aspects of cycling in South Africa. Or at the least benefiting me in some way (still to be seen)

what do you want for your license fees

Lobbying, representation, mostly on NMT matters. I sit on the Stellenbosch and Cape Town non-motorised transport fora, and it is amazing what can be done with a little bit of involvement...pity we do not have a bob, or bodies, that take care of such matters. If any of you out would like me to come chat with your municipalities, I am happy to do so. Stellenbosch now has an MTB forum, as well as a cycling vision for next two decades.

Cycling SA eventually deemed the news newsworthy enough to let its members know...

CyclingSA announces the resignation of its CEO Barry Mocke, with effect from 1 June 2011.

The Board has agreed that no immediate replacement be sought in the short term. Focus will be given to the consolidation of management at CyclingSA and the services provided by the organisation.

The above information has been shared with each provincial affiliation that in turn has assured the Board of their continued full support.

Nothing about ToSA?

Ok RocknRolla this is what SHOULD happen with the money that you the "GArden Cyclist" pays ... Ok so i dont know what discipline you do (but i will take MTB as a given as i know more about this side than road  )

IF you are a fun cyclist who does not enter the races to try and win, you only have to pay R75 per year for a licence to do a race - this fee is generally to cover the cost of administration by the CSA and Provincial Cycling Clubs at races etc!

IF you buy the MAIN licence that costs in the region of R400 bucks you are saying to CSA that you want to be counted as a "proper racer" and get points towards the Provincial and National Series. If you buy this licence and dont go and do any of these races thats your own fault!

In every case the number of fun riders exceeds the national and provincial level racers a hundred fold! - And you are in your right to say "why do i have to subsidize national or even international events, if i get absolutely nothing for it." HOWEVER ... indirectly you DO get something for it! you go to the major races (road, track or mtb) to watch if the pro's are out ... if it werent for CSA putting money into National events that promote our top level riders we would have no Hunters, Augustines, Standers, Minnaars, Neethlings (both Candice and Andrew) just to name a few! Without the UCI ranked events held with YOUR licence fee money we would never be able to support our boys and girls in the international scene ... and without their involvement in the international scene do you think we would get ANY of the high profile events that we do in the country??? NO!!!

Now A. I dont work for CSA

AND B. I too think that they have cocked up!

BUT - it can all be rectified if the finances are looked at PROPERLY - for 1 - AS FAR AS I HAVE HEARD - SO THIS MAY NOT BE FACT! ..... the WORLD CUP MTB made a loss due to lack of sponsorship ... Sponsorship that CSA told the event organiser that THEY were sorting out and he was not allowed to procure a sponsor for the event. So what happens? the Main sponsor doesnt come on board and everything falls flat! So you cant really blame the events - you need to look at the governing body!

Monies earned every year from CSA from licence fees, sponsorships and race fees (fees paid to be on the CSA calendar as an official race) should be subdivided equally between road, track and mtb around the country FOR FINANCING NATIONAL AND PROVINCIAL RACES - this money should go towards helping more SA riders compete overseas to rank us higher in teh overall UCI standings - this would then again help with sponsorship for our local races!

nothing about swimming pools?

I "believe" that Mr. Mocke has already taken office at MEGAPRO (2nd week or more already)

My understanding was that the CSA CEO position required relocation to the Cape; I'm not sure whether this was done or if functions were executed remotely.

The release/announcement from CSA makes no mention of "we wish him well", "thank him for his contribution"; just a WHOOOSH!

Makes me wonder if a notice period was served?
