I don't surf (terrible balance), but love watching the surfers as I used to be a surfing judge for Natal Defense team. It is nice to know what is considered major moves, it helps with appreciation. It is amazing how many international surfers come through Jbay. :o

I spend too much time at work, so I do not have much cycling time. :(

I never go onto the road with my tricycle but I commute everyday between Centurion and Sandton on the motorbike and there it is almost daily . But I would just like to say that of them all the Taxi's are the ones that would give the bike a lane to split and they always seems to be very aware of the bikes out there . Unlike those dumb twats in their 4x4 X5 and Jeeps .

+100. Except I'm on the motorbike from the east rand into Sandton. Also, as soon as a taxi does see me, they almost always immediately try and give me more room.

on my road bike - waaay 2 often and that P%*#%S me off cause its usually idiots missing my bars by a few centimeters. On my mtb - seldom as the only time I'm near cars is at intersections.

I kinda try think for the car - i.e you can usually judge when some idiot is going to turn, even though his indicator is off, by the way he is decelerating/drifting to the side of the lane etc.

When stopped at a red light, wanna know when it's turned orange/red for the cross traffic when you can't see the light? Look at how the cars speed up to chase a late orange/blatant red. Morons.

yip, too true. Thats why I always wait for green and check if the cross traffic is stopping, but you can still get hit all too easily.

Thursday I was nearly taken out by a Red City Tours bus driver, at the circle, in the Waterfront. Confronted the driver. Got sworn at. Have emailed and received email from MD of company.

And that was maybe number 23 of near misses on that particular days 3 hour ride.

Sheesh!! Dangerous!! And we call this sport?

Never really, but then I am always awake on the road, not like most roadies. If you believe the road belongs to you, you are on a hiding to nowhere. Listen, Look and anticipate. No problems.

I agree. For some reason I find the taxis less problematic than other cars. Middle aged men in 4x4's are the worst I have found.

As to the poll I would say 3 and 4.

I dont know numbers, I dont count, but cars and taxi's dont concern me at all, most of them I find very condiserate, what scares the hell outta me is these 36 wheeler double trailor brick trucks, or these 40ft container trucks, or these 42 wheeler coiled steel loaded trucks.

I dont believe the drivers ride so close to me on purpose, I think its a combination of narrow roads, oncoming traffic and driver ignorance about the dynamic effects a 36 wheeled fully laden brick truck has on a cyclist when they fly past at 100kms an hour with 5cm to spare between their tyres and my elbows.

Scares the hell outta me, I often have to stop and just gather my wits again. I cant remember how many times I have said "No more, I am going to get killed" but what can you do, without getting in my car and driving 80kms to an area like say the Circus out in the South, the areas I live and ride, Kyalami, Midrand, Fourways are just crazy busy, theres no quite roads.....so whats the answer.?.....I dont know.
