Ok, so the time is rapidly approaching for the first purchase of a road steed.*drumroll*

My massive budget of 12K doesnt give me very many options and being new to anything road related i am not too sure of what to get.

I do like the Trek Lexa SLX 2011 (being a huge Trek fan) but would upgrade the Tektro brakes to ultegra or dura ace asap..Im not too sure if there is a better bike to get though...

am open to suggestions, so what do you guys think???

(this would be mainly a training bike for me - my main thing is mtb, just tired of wrecking my tires on the tar during the week)

:D

Why are you worried about changing the brake calipers ... you wont notice the difference anyway.

Sure the dura ace will offer crisp clear and better stopping power but at 2500 bucks. I would rather add R2500 towards a set of racing wheels.

As for what bike, pick the bike you want, that looks awesome and one that is going to make you want to ride it every day!

Looks like you made up your mind already!

A mate of mine recently bought a KTM with full 105 for around that price if I can remember correctly. It's also a nice looking bike.

If I was gonna spend that, In a heartbeat I'd get Chaunce's raleigh. Or save an extra R3K and get a brand new TCR carbon with 10510speed.

 thanks for the input all.

I was told tektro brakes were cr@p and that i should change them (was never told it was gonna be R2500, i heard in the region of R800??? ) but if its really that insane, Ill save the cash for the skoens...

Raleigh i cant do. it looks nice but uh...its a Raleigh (sorry I am a bike snob i will admit  )

But specialized i will check out...and the ktm.

thanks!!!
