Its only really the top berm on vasbyt that is a serious safety issue on that track. Its a fast berm into a few little drop offs but there is no where to bail once u in or pull over and even if u not a DH rider it is still a fast piece of track and even at my speed there is no way i could avoid a person coming up the berm.

The other DH tracks are rough and I see no reason why anyone would like to ride up them  There is more than enough single track to be ridden with out riding up the DH ones

Yeah dude I agree cus from when i rode there (once - a couple of months back) anyone who rides UP Downhill 5 and 6 is a complete MORON! Cus i'll put down a good 50 cents that there are only like 1 or 2 guys who can ride UP that whole trail WITHOUT getting off and pushing! (ANYONE WHO HAS PLEASE LET ME KNOW CUS I WANT YOUR AUTOGRAPH) ... So in this instance - all you need on those trails are some NO ENTRY signs for the bottom (and a "Sign-Reading-for-Dummies" Sign saying that this is a dedicated DOWN track please dont ride up!) So thats easy enough and can be done with like 3 or 4 signs ... Then the only issue that remains is the link section to the bottom which i have already discussed! Then this whole problem can be resolved (and I can get back to doing work!)

If its only the top berm that is an issue then there is an alternate route just before the root section off to the right.

This can be the one way up and then the start of vasbyt(berm) can be the one way down to the root section.

See pic attached.

You can see the blue line which is my actual route taken, NOTICE: NOT UP VASBYT (BERM)

I have added red arrows to show the up and down routes.

When I get to ride Tokai I ride up until the berm as well. Just before it I ride off to the left but now there is the track cut to the right I will use that. I see no problem with riding up the bottom parts of Vasbyt. The Other DH tracks I dont ride up but i do try ride down

I think that poster should say what part of the DH track peeps are riding up. If its at the bottom of vasbyt hmm sorry Its no where near technical to be classed as DH top part yip as it is also a serious safety issue. the other DH tracks should be down only.

David r u on crack, the root section is like 2meters after the berm...not where u are pointing.

Manchillz stop it. While the pic might not be 100% to scale the sentiment is spot on. Yes David. where you turn into the forest to avoid the berm is THE PERFECT solution. That way people coming down don't have head-on collisions with people coming up. And the rest of Vasbyt (All the way to the Quarry) is bi-directional.

Signage to that effect is apparently going to be going in soon.

For sure. I don't think any rational person would claim that to be downhill. In my mind. (And this is just my opinion) the "downhill" ends at the 3rd jump on Vasbyt. And only the track from the entrance to DH1 to the berm and rooty section should be unidirectional. The really dangerous spot is the berm cos people coming in there can't see through the corner.

And let me be clear on this. By downhill I don't mean fullfaces and kneepads. I mean people heading in a downward direction.

1) Berm, lip of vasbyt will not be damaged by riders going up.

2) Safety is on the agenda!

@Manchillz, The route section IS about 5-10m after the berm BUT it extends right down about 10m from the turn into the forest.

Also. We all get hot under the collar about this issue and pissed off with this one and that. But the only reason we are doing that is cos we all love having trails on our doorstep and we all love riding them. And when someone threatens our fun (even if it's just the perception of a threat) we get pissed off.

Just to clear things up, if you refer to the iride Map:

I normally ride UP & DOWN the following trails;

1) Faerie Garden

2) My roots (Go in just after Faerie Garden - over long wooden bridge)

3) Main hill single track, except vasbyt berm (take route to the right through forest)

10) Boomslang

9) Mamba

7) Boulders

So, no I dont ride up the DH Trails 5 & 6.

I try ride up puffadder

Few manage that consistently and many are not as honest about it as you are.

Funny how one of the most difficult bits to ride up, has almost naturally become an uphill only bit of singletrack. I've absolutely NEVER encountered someone riding down Pufadder.

Btw, do you know why it is called Pufadder? - Because it's short, fat and deadly.

I cant believe it! It seems like we are finally all agreeing on this issue for once. When the old dh track is fixed up then there will be a one way dh track all the way down and everyone will be happy and smile and say hello to each other like we did 10 years ago . Well done. Class dismissed
