It is all about first impressions. Does the profile match the property? It is like seeing a 19 year old earring wearing, ass crack exposing untied shoes lighty get out of a luxury car and thinking to yourself "He either borrowed dad's car or he sells drugs."

If the dude is wearing overalls, takkies and is riding a R10k hardtail, the chances are that he stole it or bought it stolen based on the profile. I know a BLACK guy that rides a mid level MTB to work and back (Fox fork and all) dressed in cycling kit including a Specialised helmet. He looks the part so no questions asked. Had he been wearing a pair of jeans with a game helmet and takkies with his 540 pedals, I would also ask questions.

Maybe it is time to toss the race card and start looking at things with deduction and reasoning.

Not maybe, its a definite.

lowlife such as Neil from Neil's Wheels Capetown who is more than obviously dealing in stolen bikes? Or is it cool because he is of the above colour shade?

Looks like Neil needs to be investigated, I fear it might be too late for the Carte Blanche insert.

They have already taken a fair amount of footage, a normal insert for the show is 10 minutes, they have allowed Kate 12 minutes.

Funny enough, I have never been pulled over by someone claiming I have maybe stolen my bike.

now it might be because I am white...It might be because I wear cycling clothes...But I think it is because:

I am indeed white!

If it walks like a duck...

Those are eine kleine calves, they need some miles.

Damn. I'm about to agree with the oom...

Much as we all want to be seen as politically correct and racially unbias the truth of the matter is that the vast majority of bikes jacking are perpetrated by black people. Thats not racist - thats fact.

The other truth is that in SA most black people are poor. Seeing poor people riding expensive bikes is suspiscious - the colour of the person does not matter but if you see a dirty person with old clothes and knackered shoes (black or white) riding a titanium bike dripping in XTR you are suspiscious.

I guess you could also argue that 90% of people in SA are black so 9/10 poor people you see will be black. Therefor 90% of "OMG a poor person riding an expensive bike" scenarios will be about black people.

Political correctness be damned!

Pieter Pieterse, a very prolific writer, cook and TV persona, who was murdered at his property in Marloth Park next to the Kruger National Park, incidentally by a workless illegal from Mozambique, said when they travelled in Southern Mozambique and saw live Suni Buck tied up to be sold as bush meat, "how do you tell a hungry man he may not do it"

We saw that in Mozambique as well.

Yah, I told my wife she needs to do some calf raises. Or even high heels will work.

But I like how you assumed they are mine.

The little pimples and the almost perfect line of the two calve muscles tell me they belong to the male species, unless she is a body builder.

Must be because all farmers are white and have money in the safe.

Most farmers I know owe the bank a lot of money and do not even have safes.

but isnt that the problem - instead of saying - who hijacks? - black people do, we should be saying who hijacks? - people on the breadline/poor people cos they see an opportunity for some money. Despite your reasoning that the majority of "poor" people are black - does not justify using race as a describer in the first place.

Pretty much like me.

Have to keep going to though, or those working for me may be out stealing bikes instead.

Nothing like hungry kids and an angry wife to motivate a man.

I saw there was another farm murder...Wonder if the farmer is black?

This is where the thinking goes screwy and, much as i hate to admit it, I agree with Drongo.

People tend to go from "farm murderers are black" to "blacks are farm murderers"

and its very, very wrong & stupid.

Hard though it is, we have to see people as individuals and the vast majority of individuals from all races are decent folk just trying to get by.

I think there are better ways to spend your time than challenging people over their property "on a hunch". Even if you are right sometimes, it shows a certain sadness in your mindset. & when you are wrong you cause a lot of upset.

Unfortunately as one who has been touched by a senseless murder/hijacking, the vision of the a "rotten apple in the box" comes up.

Did you ever see the video of the guy in Diepsloot that was muredered by a "the vast majority of individuals from all races Diepsloot who are decent folk just trying to get by"
