I got mine from a Yale security shop. (There is one in Cresta Centre if you're in the area) for R115

carry a spare deraileur hangar (spelling???) Its not so much fun to change your bike to a singlespeed if you happen to fall hard to the wrong side.

Also a good idea to ride with a mate who knows how to use all the tools you carrying. Works for me

Thanks Benjamin - I agree. I'm cycling the K2C with 4 mates from my work so I think I should be okay. Great advice for future rides as well though thanks

see you at the race don't let the profile fool you it is hard. o and before I forget for the k2c you need a extra pair of legs

Thanks for that! Comforting. Prefer to be ignorant. :-)

NickGT, for your first race, I would suggest you take it easy up that first hill. Its so darn congested you cant go fast even if you wanted to. Save your legs for that last climb up to the golf estate, its hard work.

Really, just take it easy and enjoy it. Dont go full out till after the 50km mark. That way you will be ok.\

flip you okes must be riding with shops on your back's.

cable ties, duct tape, pump, multitool. tchoob.

Yeah I don't think 1 guy can carry ALL that has been suggested otherwise his Camelbak is really gonna be heavy. Depending on where u r riding and how long you will be in the saddle depends on what you will need for that particular ride.

Slowbee, thanks a mil for this valuable info. Will be putting it to the test on 25 Sept in Uniondale thumbup1.gif I'm just gonna take it easy, but with the other 4 guys I'm cycling with it's not going to be easy as they are fitter than I am. I guess I'm hoping for a 6hr ride down to Knysna if i can make it in 6 hours that is....

If you riding with 4 other guys who are fitter than you - I would suggest you let them go out on their own. You will try keep up with them, and it will bite you in the ass later and you will not enjoy the last part.

The k2c was also my first ride. Best advice I got was to ride the first half slow. Alot of people will overtake you. Let them. Ride completely within yourself. Dont push yourself at all. After half way - asses how you are feeling. Rather end strong with something left in the engine and feeling good, than be exhausted and just wanting the end to arrive. You wont regret it.

Pepper spray (in light of recent racing events)

what are the rules regarding the use of pepper spray on fellow competitors during a race?

If they have a look aggressive on the climbs, and I feel that my position is under attack, am I allowed to mace them?

Ok, joking aside... lately most of my riding has been coupled with building, so I often have a spade with me.

The other day myself and danger dassie were chatting on the spruit. there happened to be a transient with an unpredictable and possibly aggressive behavior. DD readied his pepper spray. i prepped my spade. i think we could have taken him
