I have not been on the forum for a bit ( also not been riding). I am back on the bike and the enjoyment is also back. Question: what helmet must I buy? I don't mind spending a bit of money and want something really light and with enough vents. I do mostly mountain biking.

I found that those small fins on the back of the Bell Sweep got damaged quite easily in the inevitable minor MTB spills that we all take on a regular basis. Otherwise it is a really comfortable and light helmet.

as the famous man once said, how long is a peace of string :P they all weight roughly the same, go for one thats fits comfy, looks good and can easily be matched to your diding clothes.

I just a bought a giro rift today, havent ridden it but feels super comfy.

How long is a piece of string? This is a question that needs to be settled once and for all: a piece of string is as long as it is, relative to itself. Disclaimer: User is entirely responsible for damages incurred due to string usage.

@TryBoy

Giro Transfer is a mid-priced helmet, looks ok, fits well and does the job. Just got a new one after a crash, my head is fine and due to 3-year crash warranty I only had to put in R175 for the new one. Obviously, if you have more money to spend, you can get something with a lot more bells and whistles.

Agreed skunky :) a pip protector however is the one item where expenisve is not necesarilly better in my view, Last week i tried on every conceivable helmet from R300 till 3.5k and the one that fit me the best was a R800 Giro rift, my prev was also a cheapy a bell lunar. So my advise is try them all one for fit, then for colour. Either you match your outfits to your helmet colour or you get a colour like white black silver that fits mosts outfits. I made the mistake of looking like a christmas tree and although that didnt bother me it does look silly :D and a replacement warrantee in case of havin afore amentioned appointement with terra firma is essential
