BORING !!!!!
[/quote']

I don't know racman... I believe that this thread was started out of a genuine concern for lack of safety conscious people at races! Now that we discussing it from all angles it's suddenly boring? I also want to ride safely but I also want to race, and in the interests of finding meaningful answers we find ourselves embroiled in what you want to call a "BORING" thread...

Stop reading it if that's the case...

To all those who called me dumb and stupid' date=' I?ve got an IQ of well over 140, so please keep those remarks to yourself. Secondly I?ve got two well working eyes, and I use them.

<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

So if we sitting on the white line and I look up and the dude in front of me is letting the gap open, I will check if it is SAFE to do so and past him going over that white line, if it is the shortest way to go.

So if you want to dq/fine me for using my brains, how much do you want?

no no no Orca, you MUST

1) allow yourself to get dropped along with the guy in front of you

2) When it's safe to do so and you can see the bunch in the diastance, pass the guy on the LEFT. Jump as hard as you can untill you reach the bunch again and you are sitting in behind another guy getting dropped.

Repeat steps 1,2

Simple....I know you're stupid but you should be able to understand this Wink

Ok so I made an effort and read through all of this . The rule is , if you break the rule don't get caught . They got caught and should be disqualified . And since we know that roadies will do stupid things ,like already mentioned here to get THAT seeding , they should also be send back to OD !! If they still behave tike a bunch of spoiled brats then add a 20g weight to their bikes , that will teach them !

I probably will but I just wish that some NEW insights would be presented, like a PRO's point of view. I appreciate you "devils advocate" approach to getting the debate going (even though your stance has fluctuated somewhat over the last 20+ pages in order to keep the temperature upLOL). So, in a nutshell, here are my views:

1) The Elites & Pro's need to be able to participate in "no holds barred" RACING and therefore it is the responsibility of the Race Organisers to arrange appropriate safety precautions & measure etc

2) The FUNRIDERS ( the problem is where do these begin?) need to stick to the white line rule or be DQ'd.

So the PRO's will having Police "front men" and rolling road closures while fun riders will have marshalls acting as "policemen" LOL.

I don't know if we are the only country in the world where the PRo's and Funriders ride together in the same race, route and day.

Maybe the answer is to provide a greater  time separation between the groups.

I do also think that there is a certain amount of "shirking" of responsibilty by PPA and to now place the photographers on the Hub in a difficult position is also not correct. They (PPA) should be doing the policing as well. After all - they do charge for the race/Funride!!

And I to could go on and on and on and ...........

I actually agree with you 100% Asking for racing doesn't mean that all racers are a law unto themselves and a danger to other road users...

GL: What do all the riders need to do for you not to look down on them in your high and mighty RACING mind and for you not be to nasty to "Funriders"? No offence but you were to and also are a funrider and without them we wouldnt of produced a few "Pro" riders we have today so please do me a favour and get off your high horse and making it that every guy that rides league or similiar has no idea what racing is about or what it takes. They atleast out there racing.

GOOD DAY COLONEL.

I have been a funrider for the last 15 years, but just as you in the MX sport where (i Think) you have a lot of experience, if you hear people that started recently, or never raced at a certain level, making comments that you think is stupid, you will probably tell them something.

I think if the SA public had less of a funrider (inexperienced in racing) mentality we would have better and more pro's. Our racing caters for funriders, officials havent sat on a bike in their live, dad funriders try and make champions of their junior kids ... Before funrides SA had Ertjies, McIntosh, van Heerden, Benekes and a lot of others.

I meant that league riders are the racing people, you are the guys that must sit in the gutter, that must follow a jump untill your lungs wanna burst. So u one of them. But how can a F or Z rider that never rides a gutter comment on the racing aspect! Like Popeye that thinks if a elite rider is an hour down he has rolling closure!

It now seems that there were cops stopping cars before the bunch. That is a rolling road closure. Now Bellairs want to DQ those riders racing in a pro tour race in the top 10 behind cop cars.

Guest colonel

Thanks for the reply and yes I do tell people who have come into MX and have all the answers to ****off on regular basis, go onto: www.e-dirt.co.za/forum and take a look!! Yes it makes 110% sense what you say about Funriders saying people must not go over the WL as they have never as you said been guttered to hell and gone would probably not know what a gutter was until they were left all alone for 90km of a 93km race but I dont think to be little them is right.

Good post, made alot more sense to me now than your others you shouldve posted this in the 1st place!!!!!

You know what? Helderberg cycle world news letter put it perfectly..

"The only item that seems to have caused problems (apart from cars being allowed down old Helshoogte Pass while the bunches are racing up on this narrow road) was the trenches that were dug across the road at Wellington, which caused quite a few punctures it seems - snakebites no doubt!"

So stop blaming the riders... and go stir somewhere else

Actually you have a BEEEEG point there FanD. I remember the race info stating that the Old Helshoogte section was only for cyclists for the race, or did I read incorrectly.

If so, then the whole thread is a non-starter as it is actually the motorists and organisers that are at fault as the cyclists thought that the whole road was allocated to them !!!!
