Varsity College 12hrs of Adrenalin

Guy there's a 3/6/12 hour team and solo race out in Muldersdrift (Avianto) on the 1st of October, its bound to be a lot of fun, racing starts at 10 so there'll be about 4hrs of night riding at the end...

Is anyone doing this race?

I've entered in a group of 4, with 2 strong riders and 2 noobs, what can we expect?

What type of stuff should we bring along? Its all of our first event of this nature (we've only done Trailseekers and the like)

Any insight or advice will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Mike

Hey Mike

For the nightriding make sure you have some good lighting. definitely a battery pack type rechargeable light, and possibly a back-up headlight.

The venue is great at Avianto clubhouse and there are showers and toilets right at the start finish as well as a bar and food on offer the whole time for an average of R25 per item. There are also braai's and braai packs on sale.

Bring some sort of shade, we are allowing guys to set-up around the mini golf course at the clubhouse and around the grass on the tennis courts.

bring a sense of humour and fun, 12hrs is a long time, but you will have a jol, get some mates to enter some more teams so you can get some ocmpetition going between yourselves as well.

Let me know if you need more info, we also have a trail run about 2hrs before on the same course, so if you are feeling really adventurous, try a run on the course first!

@Kwashi, Did it last year,So if the route is the same then: not technical so the Noobs in ur team will be fine, the exeprienced guys can hammer. Only thing that got me was the railway tracks but that was towards the end of the day, but that was a concentration issue. Route is fine with two sharp climbs but not major or long, just energy sapping after a day of riding. One nice downhill that is long and fun. Also you ride a section on the MX Track so that is fun.

It will be very hot no matter what, u will get hot in the sun, there is a pool close to the route as u come towards the clubhouse, great to just dip ur head in when ur riding or go chill if ur not riding. Take ur Umbrella's and camping chairs to sit around and socialise.

Was a well organised an event worth doing, vibe is chill and it is fun.

If you see a couple of guys struggling on singlespeeds, its the_nerd and myself. Just give us a pat on the back and a push up the hill.

Thanking you in advance

Thanks for the insights as this is our 1st entry, but only for the 3h event. We have some compitition going against my brother and a buddy of his (both much faster and fitter than me), so my son is gonna have to kick it in gear to make up for my lost time.

We'll most probably attempt the 12h next year.

I'll be on mine too. I think I'll need a push more than you.

A really enjoyable race that should be better supported. Unfortunately the storm at around 7:45 last night called a halt to the race.

A toughish route with quite a bit of climbing, some nice technical sections & fast downhills.

Thanks Rich!

Thanks to everyone that came out to support. results are up on www.racetime.co.za

pity about the storm, first one for the season and i really thought we had missed it.

4 gazebo's lost their lives in that storm, seemed like the mountain bikers were loving it, i just think the lightening and wind was a little too dangerous.

See you next year, bring your friends.

Thanks for an awesome event. The vibe was brilliant - even during the storm! The course was tough, but huge fun to ride.

Great race! I found some technical skills I never knew I had on my rigid, especially on the descents.

Will definitely be back for next year!

I did the trail run the morning, and after more than a year of NO MTB (and very cycling the last few months) I found my technical skills sorely lacking, with the result that I was too uncomfortable for my own liking, and hence bailed on the 3 hr SS solo event.

All in all an enjoyable day though!

Great event, quality turnout of riders, good route. Love the venue, almost like a hobbit warren of tent/gazebo locations.

Bloody great vibe and the storm just become part of the event's happenings. What with Jaggermeister being passed round and the prize giving being pelted with jelly babys and water bottles after a bad joke.

Was great, well worth attending!
