Hekpoort climb is always regarded as the make or break point on the 114km circuit.

A few years back i was seconding the vets 30+ race and my rider David Labuschagne broke his shoe shortly after starting the race.

He asked me to give him his "nike air" tackie and so i did, changed shoe and kept on racing.

Approaching Hekpoort i thought his race would be over as the climb with a tackie would be too difficult, wrong he broke away and left the bunch in there tracks and he and his brother took 1st and 2nd.

What a great day for the Cyclelab Vets 30+ Team
