Smith still has 2-3 years left in his career. How did Clarke do in his last 11 innings? I dont see the Aussie media and supporters gunning for his head.

We fixed the opening pair, with somebody who can also bowl a bit, Amla is back, Faf is looking better, AB is AB, JPD found some form, QdK started to look a bit more settled. Now that looks like a world class top order should!

Imo another all-rounder is not needed, we have plenty of batting already. We need a specialist bowler. Abbott took 12 in the match over the weekend btw selectors.

Can`t wait.

+2

What an awesome afternoon session of cricket, I couldn't move from the TV even my girlfriend was glued.

I must say I have the world of respect for Nathan Lyon after this test match. He showed real courage out there with the bat. I wouldn't be able to face Morkel knowing he is out for my blood.

So what your thoughts today?

Simple, Mitchell Johnson dominated the 1st Test # Fact! Dale Steyn & Proteas were excellent to comeback in 2nd test #Fact!.. there are no thoughts.. it is what it is. That's test cricket and global sport! A spectator watches the game (2 teams).. a PARASOCIAL INTERACTION.. lol.. you should know what that is

I'm cool with Biff.

He's extraordinary as a captain, quietly running a super outfit which is ruling Test cricket by a moerse margin.

He has his technical flaws that Mitchell Johnson or any leftie bowler can exploit.

His field placings are good but do get criticized when the bowlers miss their line and length. That's unfair on the captain sometimes.

I am abroad and could only follow cricinfo's live commentary - reading a book while it's bring written.

It was intense.

So glad I am not Graeme Smith. You bowl a team out in just over 2 sessions and people still criticizing

I don't know which other countries would treat their captain this way. Dhoni has lost something like 12 of his last 13 away tests and doesn't receive this criticism. They just got destroyed by NZ yet he is still the highest paid player in the world.

When Aus were 125/0 going at over 4 an over most fans were probably thinking they might get that (I was) and then they complain Smith declared to earlier, if it had rained on Monday, he would have declared to late. He in fact got it perfectly right but still gets criticized.

Ridiculous

One also should bare in mind he got to 6000 runs faster than Amla and to 7000 faster than AB, Kallis and even the current Aus captain, Clarke.

Nail, head

Often a bowler will let the Captain down, yet the captain will get the stick (and credit). In all honesty I would accept Smith averaging 20 - if SA won all those matches.

1 down at tea time

All out in the final extended session.

What's the weather in PE this morning, out of interest?

Averaging what he has as opener (the toughest batting job in the world) is great.

Would love to see a century from him at his home ground in the 3rd test.

I had a look at the PERF webcam's archive of hourly photos since 7am this morning. It seems like it was raining quite hard there up to about 9am. On the 10am pic there are still a few puddles, but it seems like the rain have stopped for now.

I wonder what happens now. A light training session this morning, followed by the day off to wander around in PE, play a round of golf etc, or do they move all their flights and catch the first plane to CT and start off with a good Net tomorrow first thing?

funny you should say that: there's just been a call for him to step down and let Kohli take over.

I am openly not a fan of biff...but only his personality...as a cricketer and a captain I cannot fault him...in fact he is already an international great

His attitude used to grate me too, but he seems to have mellowed somewhat, and become more introspective.

Definitely.

He's more a man now in character than the laaitie that received the captaincy nod at 22.
