If Faf was a cyclist, I would wonder what new form of doping he is using - average of about 30 after 50 innings, now suddenly lining up 100 after 100! Jokes aside, I have always liked him as a player since his breakthroug season in IPL as a sub for the injured Hussey.

Imo the selectors had a bit of a brain fart with the team today. Parnell is can not be depended on to defend 12 runs bowling at the death, or to score 12 runs off the last over to win a game. Robin Peterson would have been a better option on this tour.

Also, based on performance to date, it was unfair to drop Tahir to include another batsmen. It would have been more logical to drop Steyn or Morkel. Also, I wonder if Phangiso got the nod ahead of Tahir based on criteria other than merrit.

I think Tahir got a rest, he will be in the final for sure.

Agree with Parnell but Abbot has been no good either.

I doubt that Rossouw deserves anymore game time either,

average of 12 against Zim is pathetic.

I would have to disagree with you on Rossouw. I think he is a player for the future and would keep him in the mix of things. If you judged a few guys thats settled in the squad currently only on their first 3 games, i doubt it a few of them would be there then

11 Years since South Africa have played an ODI tournament final. The last final South Africa played was in 2003, when they lost against England in the NatWest series. South Africa played at least one final a year from 1994 to 2003, but haven't featured in one since.

South African batsmen who have scored three hundreds in an ODI triangular or quadrangular - du Plessis is the first. David Gower, Graeme Hick, Mark Waugh, Saeed Anwar and VVS Laxman are the other batsmen to have achieved this.

Where i would agree with you is if he was playing against a quality side,

yes they had their tails up but to get 2 ducks and then a 36 against a side like Zim,

especially when he was given the time and opportunity at the crease.

I would send him home and get him to work on his game,

if his form comes good again throw him in then and see if it works.

Dale Steyn was dropped 2 or 3 times from the test squad.

He proved himself in the domestic game over and over and thats why he is still there.

First off, i think you are underestimating Zim as a cricket side, especially in their own conditions. if they played is SA i would be another story, but Zim was very competitive in this series. A few of our (and Aus) quality players struggled in these conditions. AB (who i think is the best talent in the world at this stage) avg 11 in all their games against Zim the last few weeks.

The first game: Although that was a stupid run I will put it down to nerves. Playing for your country will cause this, even if it is against a team like Zim

Second game: That was just a very good delivery, and i think a lot of guys would have fallen to that if they received it first ball up

Third game: I think he showed that he can bat and played a few quality stokes. Once again he was bowled with a quality ball, even the commentators asked the question how a "part time" bowler could achieve that much spin.

All i am trying to say is, give the guy a decent chance. He has by no means deserved to have a permanent spot in the team, but i never think that was the aim of the selectors. I think they want him to get used to the environment of the team etc. (eyes on World Cup) as he may be our Extra batsman we choose when we need one in our team(much like the team they choose yesterday)

I agree with a lot of your points,

but Zim is not a good side, they played well but they also got properly thrashed in most games.

He got good balls but as a player trying to crack into a great team you need to actually push things a bit and pay attention, especially the first few balls.

If he averaged mid 20's i would feel different but he averaged 12 in 3 games.

Cant compare him to AB even in this tournament, he has been hot and cold and is also injured.

If he is to be a part of this team they need to give him a bit more game time, but if he is just there to fill the spot he must go home and get more experience and build his confidence a bit.

I like the player and can offer a few extras other than batting, but with his current performance he cant expect to be in the team.

I dont understand Parnell's promotion, up the order, or how he went about the execution. I hope it does not lead to disaster.

Another super effort from Faf

Perfect batting cover by Amla and AB

6 wickets victory

Well done, Flower Power

Nice, big win for SA! Our bowling unit clicked, led by Steyn. Top 4 got the runs easily - Faf and AB superb again. First time ever we beat Aus in any form of ODI final.
