Well the sun is out and Aus is struggling. Rubs some salt in the wounds as they just had to survive till lunch for the conditions to improve, but they just blindly tried to hit themselfs out of a situation playing like its a ODI. you cant expect something else though with your captain setting the prime example. They need to pull a rabbit out of a hat with this one just to get a draw IMHO

This test shall have a result and most likely in England's favour.

I'm inclined to think that those are particularly generous odds for Aus especially with Root looking to be in really good form.

8 for 15 for grumpy Broad

Not grumpy today

Is that a top10 ever best bowling figures

He sure landed them on the so-called penny

Definitely a top ten ever Ashes performance, although I'm sure no one's going to best Jim Laker's 10/53 ever. If memory serves and I am recalling cricket history correctly he went on to take 19 wickets in that match.

oh. and england seem to be doing quite fine without KP. he's definitely played his last test now.

This Root laaitie is quite a solid performer

And even ol Bell is still holding his own

how's this for a classic line, written last week by the brilliant George Dobell:

Whether the game has changed for the better is debatable. But whether it is due to the introduction of T20, the wealth of rival entertainment options, the pace of modern life or shorter attention spans, it seems there is no going back. The forward defensive has become a stroke so rare that dentists in America plan to hunt it down and shoot it.

ok away from the ashes for a second. Our buddies up north of the limpopo have a huge game today - the series decider against recent world cup finalists - the Black Caps.

maybe it's reverse african time, but they started at 9am in Harare. The zimbos took a leaf out of the Cook book and chose to bowl after winning the toss. going ok at 45/1 after 11 overs (ok there's no BMac blasting from the start in this series, but guptill is there).

He wasn't too heppie kleppie

I'm sure that the leadership tension between Smith and Clark is screwing up the team

If Clarke doesn't make a tonne in the next 3 innings and Australia goes down without much of a fight now.... Smith will be captain.
