the last two bowlers to take a wicket on the first ball of thwir test career have both been south africans..piedt and viljoen...there have been 9 in total since the 2nd world war

Pollock is an exceptional cricketer but I would not have called him an allrounder

Kallis Big Mac Proctor Rice Barlow those are all rounders

Zulu and Kemp also spring to mind

go look at his batting record

almost 4000 runs at an average of 32 with 2 centuries. I would say that constitutes an allrounder. He is continually ranked in the list of top 10 greatest allrounders

edit: P.s. Ian bothams average was 33

They are not all rounders

They are bowlers who can bat a bit.JPD is a batsman who can bowl a bit in the one day game.

We have no all rounders at the moment

kallis was a genuine all rounder, but his bowling average was average at 32. He wouldn't have played as a bowler alone.

There's a loose way to classify an all rounder. Batting average - bowling average.

Kallis is +25

Philander + 3

Duminy - 6

Jp got in as a batsman, and then developed as a reliable bowling option when required. But his primary role is a batsman and he hasn't kicked on since that partnership with steyn all those years ago.

shakib al hasan is in good company at +6.

if you look at the official rankings - http://www.relianceiccrankings.com/ranking/test/all-rounder/ it's mainly all bowlers who can bat a bit, with mohammed hafeez  and angelo mathews being the exceptions down the list.

but to get back on point - you don't need allrounders when your top 6 batsmen are hitting runs and your four bowlers are firing - they come in to fill the gaps.

New twist to the March Fixing Scandal; along with Goolam Boodi, 2 current test players, not part of the England Series are implicated, I'm Pretty certain we can now come to our own conclusions who that could be, but please no naming, lol!!

2 test players? Recent ones can be Reeza Hendricks, Philander, Harmer. Tahir is in this series' odi squad.

The list should be short - who else am I leaving out?

No naming, but can we try shaming? Under the "Miway, or the Hub way' rule for shameful emotional accusations, I will stick to my original suggestion from a few days ago. The performances he gave are too odd, in my Hubble opinion.

(OK, so who would have been a current Test player, not playing against the English, who would have been in the Ram Slam? Harmer, Piedt and them were in India. Lopsy? He was just One day, as far as I can remember. Parnell? Rilee Rossouw - think he's in the current squad.Philander. Place your bets, Sherlock! :)

Sounds like the wheels came off our bowling unit yesterday afternoon and this morning. At least they got 2 wickets.

Our batting is still below par, and the bowling without Dale and Vern is inconsistent - mostly poor with a good ball now and then. England is scoring at over 4 runs to the over on a helpful pitch!

At least we are giving new guys a go - I hope Morris, Viljoen, Abbott and Rabada will be the attack when the other guys retire.

Yes, Christie

While the results are somewhat against the Proteas, the unit is quietly and importantly rebuilding and bringing in new blood:

RABADAAAAAA and Chuck Morris are pretty awesome

Vilas also took some superb catches

Piedt is also pretty steady and will always be a good spinning option
