A bit of a collapse by the middle order. How many opportunities will Bavuma get? With an average of only 30 in test cricket, he'd be the one to miss out once AB is fit.

In the 25 innings that he has batted, in 12 of them he has only made 10 or less.

Looking at the team, he surely has to be the one that makes way for AB.

On the other hand, the quota issue might make that a somewhat more complex decision for the selectors to make.

If Parnell can step up the number of players of colour is unchanged.

True, lets hope he brings his first class form through to the test arena.

I'm a bit torn here. I've never really liked Parnell, but for the sake of National interest I'm willing to put my personal feelings aside.

Yes. That is my thinking as well.

What are all your reasons?

Parnell 2.0

Or is it 3.0

Looks sharp

Focused

The team needs some all-round ability as well as, more importantly, the Lefty

Hope he does well ???????????????? ????????

Parny is back in as he has been doing really well for the Cobras in the 4 day format, Comes off getting a ton as a stand in opener as Putters was injured and has quitr a few sticks to his name in this domestic season. Yes our level of 4day franchise cricket is VERY poor, but Parnell has some good experience and seems very focussed on doing well after being out of the reckoning for so long.

On the Bavuma note, Not quite sure what the National Team criteria is regarding the number of black african players on the field. I know at Franchise level that 3 must be in the starting 11 at all times, As i said, Not too sure about the numbers required in the national team.

So in saying that, Cook, Elgar and Duminy are always in the "**** box" if they do not score as it makes an easy route for AB to re-enter the team, Hashim opens and either Elgar or Cook or Duminy make way... Faf as captain is "cemented", Hash will always come good, Quinny is the WK and just plain inhumane in the way he bats and Bavuma(Discussed already).

So there is your top order, 1 must feel that JP, Cook and Elgar are walking a tight rope(well batted JP). Cook even more so due to age and if he makes way, Hash opens and we keep the left right had combo at the top of the order!!

So in saying that, POLITICS will ALWAYS stuff up our sport!!

Parnell has earned his recall with performances.

The quota agreement is an average over the season. It is (google required) 54% black, 18% black african.

So look at the side for  a game against Australia and one against Zim. If they don't play enough black players against australia then they might well load the team against zim with fringe black players to even out the average.

I think it promotes a perverse incentive. I'd much rather have our national side picked on merit (like it's been) with a healthy level of non white players, over one that has maybe more non whites, but no one really knows if they're there on skill/race or mix there of.

interestingly they haven't quite loaded the squads that way for the T20s, but it comes down to who plays

All change for SA T20

IN: Theunis de Bruyn, Reeza Hendricks, Heino Kuhn, Mangaliso Mosehle, Lungi Ngidi, Dane Paterson, Andile Phehlukwayo, Jon-Jon Smuts, Wayne Parnell

OUT: Faf du Plessis, Kyle Abbott, Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Rilee Rossouw, Dale Steyn, David Wiese

Yes, "quotas" will remain a part of our sport. Crying over it is not going to assist the situation in any way or form. Parnell just seems to have underperformed whenever he got the call-up, opposed to someone like Abbott who always seemed to punch above his weight, and got the results to show for it with the limited chances he got. On the Parnell matter. I can't really put my finger on why I don't like him. Perhaps its his apologetic demeanour during interviews, perhaps it is because I see him as a very talented player who never played on the national stage to his full potential (like Daryl Cullinan). For a player with a few 100's to his name, he played some pretty loose shots out there today and together with the rest of the lower order denied Quinny a decent bat.
