Personally I would bet that Smith did so but in private. Most of mates in Aus are painting the picture of a good guy who made a huge mistake. I genuinely feel a bit for him. Not that this makes right the wrong of course but I hope for cricket's sake Smith can get about fixing the damage he has done which he seems keen on.

True I feel for Smith. Not condoning what he did.

Warner on de udder hand. One Aussie radio man commented that where there is a fire you will find Warner with a box of matches.

I think we often consfuse the word “mistake” with “intentional bad decision”, he did not slip, trip and fall onto some sandpaper that was blown onto the field by some random tornado.

The decision to cheat was a very explicit one. The mistake he made was getting caught.

That doesn’t mean people shouldn’t be more forgiving, but that’s a different point.

True, very true.

Did one of the guys with the sand paper say sorry to their opponents who they tried to cheat?

Whilst all this may still come out in the wash eventually...I got a question.....

Where the hell did they get the sandpaper?

From all accounts, it sounds like it was spur of the moment kinda decision during a lunch break.....but unless someone ran down to the hardware shop in Main Road, Newlands during lunch (more questions...who was it and did he use Aussie dollars or did he have some spare rondelas in his pocket??), then someone actually came into the change room carrying a sheet of the ruff stuff!  ....

(Conspiracy theorists welcome to participate)....

Its part of regular kit for batsman to maintain their bats

I am off the opinion that sandpaper, and or different ball tampering devices have been in use by the current Australian cricket team under the Leadership of Smith and Liegman for quite a while. Remember they came into the recent ashes series as complete underdogs. All of a sudden all of the fast bowlers 'hit form', and they were all over the English batsmen like a rash.

People are in general very forgiving, sometimes against all better judgement. Sometimes we forgive just so that we can feel to be on the moral high ground, sometimes there needs to be proactive intervention so that we do not become the thing we regret about those who commit 'errors'. By that I mean we make errors of judgement by trying to be 'good people' because most of us don't have the vaguely psychopathic personality traits that it takes to become really top international sportspeople, and we share no understanding of their repeated misdeeds. It's the same rubbish that causes evangelicals to support the Orange one.

(I'm not saying all players are psychos. I'm saying that in specific circumstances of repeated misdeeds that sometimes 'I'm sorry' has no meaning')

At this stage at the start of the final Test, there’s been lots of tears and regret.

Don’t think that all the layers of truth were revealed within what really happened in the #sandpapergate:

- really only 3 players were involved

- no detailed statement from Warner?

- no coach involved in the ball tampering plan?

- bowlers had no clue of the tampering and not involve reverse swing in their bowling plan?

Etc

In any event, back to the 1st innings ????

Any sign of reverse swing after the 30th over? :-)

None. But Markram has been punishing the Aussie bowlers big time. And AB hasn't fired yet!
