Had a very nice downpour here . 20 mm of rain . It's starting to clear up , so lets hope we have no wind tomorrow , 'cause then it should be ideal conditions for the race . The roads are a bit wet at the moment , but they should drain pretty quickly .

Here's my ride report.Rode with my training group from Bloem.Within 8km one of our team mates got a puncher...plugged it as it was a tubeless tire and on we went.Everything went great.Nearly killed myself riding up that rocky climb on Ebens farm but manage to climb 90% of the climb.

And now things started to get hot as hell!!Problems struck us again when we had another rear wheel puncher trough the single track next to the river.Note to self - Specialized Fast Trak LK is the kakkest tire on the marked!!Plugged it again and went on.The Zinkplaat pad after the 75km waterpoint is were I suffered the most! But all went ok until the finish.

Great race and well organised.Route was not the most entertaining but I never felt bored and it had something of everything in it.Only negative was the heat! But I will be back again next year hoping for a sub 4.

Wonderful ,thanks Lord now it's just racing. Will we be going down the rocky section and can we clock out at half way if we race for podium

Surprised you would even ask this. The rules say your time from the gun applies only to the Elite and u23 riders but Would you honestly believe you deserved a podium in vets if you raced 2 hours, clocked out for 30 mins to recover then raced again for say 2 hours?

Assuming you didn't do this did you get the vets podium you were talking about?

Wil6 it was about 10 Deg C cooler than two years ago, so I found it much more pleasant this time, weather was in fact great.

Missed the cut-off to the big climb by a few mins, was a bit miffed. I think it should still be an option for the slower riders, some of us like the technical bits, and want to be challenged.

Otherwise, all good. I didn't stop at most of the water points although I was expecting vetkoek at the 3rd last one next to the river, all I was was smart ass chirps by a Matt White look-alike. Last water stop: that 70's kok rock being blasted was just horrible. Smell of sif braai did not help, but at that late stage one needs the refill. Was I glad to get away from that, the speed at which I departed gave me enough momentum to carry up that last granite dome.

Managed 6 hrs +, finished strong, great event, I try and do it every two years, if only to pay homage to that meteorite, since if it didn't slam into the Earth at that place, we wouldn't be here.

Enjoyed the 106 yesterday although the last 20km was pure pain for me. I was battling to eat enough, choked on a biogen bar, now I know why they're so cheap! Enjoyed the beers with SeanN. Sorry I missed you Wil6, hope we can have a cold one next time.

Yes 2010 was baking hot I really suffered in that heat on that one.

Yesterday was really nice much easier this time with the cooler weather.

I thought it was pretty cool weather. When I got into my car at 1pm it was 28C. Imagine if we had of ridden last weekend in the heatwave.

Finished in 4:24 but lost loads of time in the last 20km. Wanted to finish strong but the tank was empty. Really enjoyed it though. I thought conditions were perfect. What went wrong?

Probably just not used to the "heat". All my training rides is after work at 18:00 or early mornings.Time to start training 10:00 on a Sat
