2699 for the Edge 500, EasyGIS. You wont look back. This is the bundle pack with cadence / speed sensors and HR belt

PS download sporttracks as well, very cool software for analyzing your garmin data with.

price of Edge 800?

I ordered the complete bundle with EU maps from Wiggle.co.uk when they had a 15% off special at the beginning of the week. It should come to just under R4000 incl. VAT.

I went 725 to Edge 500 and love it! Not having to bother with pick ups, magnets and wheel sizes on different bikes is awesome. Plug and ride man - it rocks! I run with mine too...

Go to dcrainmaker.com if you want good reviews on all the Garmin's. Very detailed reviews but good if you are wondering about which one.

Good advice!!

Went from the Polar 510 to the 725 to the 600.

Switched to Garmin 500

LOVE my garmin!!

How long does it take the Garmin to pick up the signal when you start your training and what happen when you go under bridges or trees? Any signal problems

The last few times I used my Edge 500 it took a few minutes to pick up a signal, was quite irritating tbh. There was an update to the software that should have speeded up the signal acquisition but imo it now takes longer. Originally it was about 1 minute, the last time I used it I was more than a km down the road before it acquired.

Definitely loses signal under trees, bridges, subways etc....evident by the instant speed reading dropping. BUT this does not seem to affect the overall accuracy at all.

This makes sense, since most bridge/tunnel/subway sections are straight. The GPS gets points at the entrance and exit and then just draws a straight line between them.

I have a Forerunner 305. It takes anything between 1min to 10min to pick up the signal. I commute to Cape Town CBD and in the CBD it takes longer because of the tall buildings. At home it takes about 2-3min. I switch it on a couple of minutes before I leave. Once you get into the habit, it is not really a problem.

I have not lost signal in and around trees, but yes it does lose signal when going underneath a bridge, but picks it up quickly again afterwards. Thus far, no real problems.
