I have heard a guy saying ztr with hope hubs and xt spokes is very good

Any opinions ons this?

Also what other option would you rather choose and and what prices are we looking at?

Thanks

Go with your first instinct...Hope Evo II's with ZTR whatever. They are enough of everything...strong enough, light enough and doesn't completely break the bank(between 4500 and 5500 for a set)

Then again if you want to spoil yourself, Chris King or I9 are probably the best, but you hoes for them.

I run Hope Pro2's laced to Velocity Blunts with DT Swiss double butted spokes, slightly heavier than the norm but plenty strong.

Not many SA folk know Velocity rims, but they are very strong.Maybe not the lightest but they will last.

I have a set of Deep V that are almost 15 years old and still good.

XTR hubs with Velocity Blunt rims laced with double butted DT spokes. Mine have lasted about 10,000km and still going strong on SS duty now.

Are you using the modern aluminium-axle XT hubs or the older steel ones? The latter I found reliable, the former, I find unreliable. However, some people have a different experience with these.

Did you know that Velocity has a new SL version of the Blunt? Much lighter and much cheaper than ZTRs. I only discovered these a week ago but I think I'll try a pair myself.

I'm using the alu axled hubs - did break one after many 1000s of km but Shimano replaced it under warranty. I agree the steel axled ones were better. 50g extra weight I'm happy to carry!

Heard about the new SL but haven't seen them yet! My opinion is Velocity over ZTR any day - price aside the Velocities are way stronger!

I suggest American Classic hubs, ZTR Crest rims and DT Evolution spokes. Killer wheels and weighs under 1400g.

aaaaaaaaaah XT hubs aluminium ones...... Glad I got rid of those. I now have more time to sit back and have a cold beer instead of servicing the hub every time it went near water. Since the GF changed to hope hubs life is good....
