Damn I won't be around the next 2 weekends otherwise I would gladly have shown you around .... After that?

I need to go on my own so I can have a go at it without the perceived pressure. having people around just makes me more nervous. But tx, appreciate it.

Will definitely be back, just did a yellow and orange loop - 15km good practice on the rocky climbs and coming down them as well. Will work my way towards green then blue :)

Sounds like the start of a "hub" ride.

If I'm tagging along can we make it a how slow can you guys go ride? You lot can practice track stands or something.

Never heard of any incidents and I still ride 2-3 times a week there. There is 24 hour security at the gate and they do regular fence patrols.

Thaba during the week On my own. Advisable? Security wise.

Yes- no problem, very safe...(IMO)

Only thing to worry about is running out of skill on the blue routes...

Other than that- best riding in JHB.

Maybe PM NSBB to see if he can guide you on a mid week outing...

Cool. Tx I'll give it a bash. Need to take some time off during the week do might as well go get in some training on those rockier trails.

excellent mid week ride, always feel safe at thaba. More scared of the wildebeast than anything else. I always try ( but don't always get it right )squeeze in a green route ride midweek. At a decent pace the green alone can be knackering. And I think it's now nearly 19km's inc the forest if it's not to dark.

To test if the blue is not out of your range of skill ,do the green course but add in lawerence ,genet, yafta and maybe even Wendell's way, gully,Barry's point, gravity boulders. None of that blue is to technical but will test your stamina & strength for sure. But you'll need about 2-3hrs for that ride.

I KNOW blue is out of my range if if takes you guys 2-3hrs I'll need 8.

Working my way through from green - slowly.

Someone described the climb on blue as feeling like you're going to flip over ... I'm quite happy to go struggle along on something easier.

Me and rocks have a hate hate relationship, started at Karkloof, it's gotten better since, until I encountered buffelsdrift. Thaba seems next best thing and closer to home to get over the mental block I have.

i had and still do have my fear of rocks, but thaba is a great place to get over that. I would do the green route and add in one small blue route section called yafta ( only 1 km long) and not to difficult at all and very easy to do with out getting lost. Always up for a ride at thaba, beats riding alone in the week.

I share your sentiments. Thaba Green is plenty technical enough for me plus I reckon I stand a higher chance of staying on the bike and out of plaster of paris casts that way.

My personal challenge at the moment is getting in more than 1 lap of Thaba. That was the intention last week but alas, 1st lap slam dunked me into reality.

I've signed up for the Badplaas MTB 2 day stage race in July and doing the Endomondo maths, it is the equivalent of 3 loops of Thaba (green) 2 days in a row (with a bit more climbing if that is even possible).

I've devised a plan to get there before the race and will be spending the next few (7-8) weekend mornings there and at the vlei (depending on distance and climbing goals).

You are more than welcome to tag along assuming that you don't mind a SLOW pace :) Granny gear is my friend.
