Still one of the nicest(and tough) races out there.

But what's up with so many cars on the route? Most of them were following the ultra marathon front runners ,with total disregard to other riders, almost pushing us off the tight jeep track to pass. Race briefing was clear about support for these guys, that' s why they have tech zones.

Perhaps it's because of the many dirtroadies in mtb these days.

Good race - well orgranised, great conditions, nice challenging route but frustrating as always when the different races share the same finish. I know there are practical considerations which make it very difficult to have a different finish for each race, but why put the single track at the end of the shared finish route? Surely if you have to share a finish route do it on an open road with space for everyone to get past?

Big field ... and lots ot 29'ers out there now. Great route, event, experience, support from locals at the water points, really a beautiful part of the country.

A privileged to traverse the oldest mountain on the planet. Did anyone else stop and read the geological info boards that someone kindly put up? Like the Iron Oxide sedimentary deposits that were laid 3.1 billion years ago even before the Earth evolved Oxygen in the atmosphere. Was folded up strata, towards the top of the big climb. Also a bit further on, silicate stone of the same era, that was used for stone tools much later. I went back after the race before the trip home to take a closer look.

The field in the marathon was very up for it, got a bit lonely holding up the rear of the proceedings. No congestion on the quad track by the time I rolled in.

Other:

- One too many quads ripping past me on the route. On a mission or just having a jol?

- Two abandoned mtb bikes en-route, hope the owners are okay?

- Thousands of swallows perching on a power line, is it the end of summer already?

Frits Pienaar finished in 8th Sub Vets on the 75km, good to see him back with a bang :)

But my time keeps improving by 10 minutes every year, so he better watch out, when we 90...
