So the inevitable happened...

Did a quick 5k road run on Saturday morning and late in the day I felt a bit of a niggle in my right leg.

Went to go see the physio today and surprise-surprise, I have an ITB injury.

Apparently as my feet are virtually flat they are causing tension and compensation when I run, which moved up the leg and screwed it all up. She was quite surprised that I can actually run at all hehe. Seems my flexibility has helped me out to prevent previous issues. Had quite a painful massage, going back for more treatment and have to do some excersises she gave me.

Can do moderate excersise but this will be a 6 week process, so there goes the start of my season...

Anyway I'm off to go buy a foam roller and wollow in my own self-pity :P

I'm with you on this.

Wanted to step it up for Sani2c from this week. Injured my knee(or some idiot girl did) in a netball game last week. . Out for a couple of weeks. Cross training sucks for me.

Welcome to the club dude. I been battling for about 6 months. New inner soles, bio etc... Still running with pain. Got the xterra and 12km of trail running this weekend. Decided i am gonna just have to pain manage it.

Foam roller? Ouch dude, one of the most painful things you can do to yourself is to roll out an ITB. Make sure you lick up your tears. Electrolite loss leads to cramping.

Yep just bought one, could barely do a roll on it at the physio.

I do bruise easily but yoh, my leg looks like I got bunkered playing paintball :cursing:

That sounds like me in 2008. Also decided, after being diagnosed with ITB, to do just the one last event before laying low (since it was the event I was training so hard for in the first place). Long story short, 2011 was the first year since then that I have been able to build up my running again. Almost 3 years of issues and hardly any running.

You can guess what my advice would be :-)

Yep I'll rest it, but I'm going to need to find something to keep me busy, last run was Saturday am and I'm going crazy allready.

Atleast I can swim and do low key excercise

pm KRL747. He struggled with an ITB injury for quite a while and kept on going back to the physio without any success. He eventually got it sorted by a chiropractor. Sounds weird, I know, but a true story.

As well. Had horrible ITB and went to a physio. She told me everything is fine according to her checks and that I must go to a chiro. 1 Visit and I never had any problems again. But I also think you get chiros and then you get chiros. The guy I went to doesnt ruk and pluk at all. http://www.capechiro.net/

Also got ITB whilst running then did Tour of Durban the week later and could barely turn the pedals. Went for about 5 physio sessions. Also went for orthodics to raise/sort out the flat foot issue. Have had no issues since!!
