I have been inspired by this year's Ironman70.3 and will attempt it next year. Almost 50% of the participants were first timers this year! I started running and will do the 2Oceans 1/2 marathon this year, will have to see if I can actually swim after that.

Are there any Olympic distance triathlons in the Western Cape in second half of this year? It would be great to do one or two before IM70.3 in Jan 2013

It will also be my first Ironman in April. Had an OK 70.3 and have started increasing the training volume a bit so if everything stays on track everything should go well.

What splits are you guys working towards? And can you use your 70.3 time to predict an full ironman finish time?

Some people say you can double your 70.3 time but in my experience you can double it and add an hour or so on.

I did my first 70.3 this year and I am hooked. I was planning to do the Full as well, while I am in training mode, but I will unfortunately not be able to do it this year due to this flippen irritating ITB. I am now focusing on getting it sorted before the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon. I will definitely be at the 70.3 and Full next year.

I think the other way around double it and deduct 1 hour

I did both 70.3 and IM last year.

My time for the 70.3 in shocking conditions was 5:46 and my time for the full was 11:52 although I estimate that I lost 30 minutes on the run in the full due to a stiff back which took a while to loosen up.

So notwithstanding relative conditons and problems encountered in each race 70.3 x 2 = IM

My experience is also times 2 + one hour.

Who cares in any case? There are so many variables for both the 70.3 and IM. (Weather, how you felt on the day, overtrained?, mechanical issues, cramps etc fro BOTH races)

Saying times 2 minus one hour however does not make sense!

I did a 5h43 70.3 and 11h09 IM in 2011.

This year did a 5h07 70.3 and am sure that won't convert into a sub 10 hour IM.

I guess if you double your 70.3 time it should be close to your full IM time, but it depends on how you're feeling on the day.

Agreed time is secondary in these events the most important thing is to finish, its a long hard day out and so many things can and do go wrong. Just get over the finish line and enjoy the moment.

Thanks, thats what I'm looking at doing. Enjoy the day and cross the line before cutoff...Obviously have a goal in mind according to my training times but I'm relaxed about it.
