they going to expand to Super 18 - aikona - they should be going the other way. they should make it smaller and more competitive/intense. the local competitions in SA, Aus & Nz will then become competitive, intense and exciting.

we are seeing smaller and smaller crowd attendances in SA & Aus at Super Rugby it will only get worse with 18 teams and a confusing points systems to determine the winners of the various groups.

In the words of ABBA.......Money, Money, Money!

Not from tickets to the games but TV rights and sponsors. That's why your DSTV is costing so much with the crappiest movie choice ever!

3 powerhouse teams from each of the SANZAR countries (teams chosen on local competition standings like Currie Cup and can then draft in players from other sides that didn't qualify) and then three teams from Japan/Samoa/Argentina based on whoever wins their local competitions. Less games, higher intensity.

I don't understand why everyone wants fewer games and fewer teams.

By them including an extra few teams and a longer competition does mean more money but it also means the game is growing which is great.

Yes all the SA sides aren't doing to well this year (Except for Sharks but they not on top of their game at the moment) but that is not because we have 5 sides in the competition. We already faced with a problem where we are losing players to Overseas teams. If we narrow our teams down from 5 teams to 3 teams we will have more players leaving for "greener pastures".

I do think SA rugby needs to manage our unions better and by doing this players will be managed better.

I think it's viewer fatigue. I honestly felt more anticipation and excitement for games, especially when playing overseas teams, when it was the Super 12. I realize they need to keep the tournament fresh and attractive but simply expanding it every couple of years seems unsustainable.

Viewer fatigue? Fark I hate Saturday nights at 7 pm because I know I have to wait a whole week until it starts again. And if people weren't watching they wouldn't expand the competition so surely there is a demand for it.

I'm talking for myself and why I would prefer less games. No doubt they're raking in cash. It would be nice to see better attendance at the games though. I'm a Sharks fan but not enjoying their grinding out the win tactics at the moment. Have loved watching the Cheetahs this season, pity about their results.

wtf happened at the Lions game with that controversial end?

Sorry, scotty and Mackie

That was one brave fight back at 22-0 or something.

Yep, it is a shame if controversial decisions influence the outcome of a game. Good luck to your team @Dale. Will be supporting them against the bulls
