My son was in the Elites on Sunday and his saddle dropped off in the road.He turned around and went to pick it up!!!!

Don't generalise you bigot!

Did he manage to get it back on? Happened to me once at Walkerville. Bolt had sheared, so I did about 10 or so kays home standing up.

I don't deny the generalisation, and call me a "bigot" if you like.

I stand by my generalisation. I have done 4 road races since the beginning of the year and in each race have seen, on average, at least 5 people littering.

Not ONCE have I seen anyone:

1) Stop to go back and get their empty sachet when they have dropped it:

2) Apologise when they are called on their behaviour;

3) Call any other person to account when the other person has littered; or

4) Come to my defence when offenders get aggro with me.

I haven't ridden in any MTB races, triathlons. duathlons. downhill races or any other races, so can't comment on what happens in them.

Roadies are pigs. That is my view based on my experience, and I think (given that experience) my generalisation is a fair one. A generalisation, by its nature, always has exceptions, but I haven't seen any anyway.

Call me a bigot if you want.

Yes, I can vouch for this. The accidentally discarded saddle was collected at the expense of his final position over the line. Not piglike at all. Pigs are more likely to feature as part of the saddle than to sit on top of one, or pick one up off the road.

I myself returned home with two empty gels in my back pocket. Pigs don't have pockets. Unless they have been made into handbags. That is a different story.

Bigot.

From your argument it seems we can call you a pig too.

You have my sympathy.

Its not only cyclists, its all users of the road but sadly one would think cyclists would understand this more (the mess littering creates) as we are always at the side of the road and get to see what you miss when driving along.

agreed. who do people think will pick up their littler ? I've seen so many cars chucking out their used macdonalds/KFC packaging, makes my blood boil every time I see it.

Hi bigot,

You admit not to have any other information regarding MTB races, triathlons, duathlons, downhill races or any other races (I'll include road running as well) however you want to call road cyclists PIGS? The way you are going about calling road cyclists pigs implies that they are pigs, and other cyclists (sport participants) are not, and that is not true. Pigs transcend sporting codes!

One observation hardly qualifies for experience, and to generalise (make an inflammatory statement) based on ONE observation leaves you as the ill informed, bigotted pig. Please open your small mind to the possibility that littering is done by more people than just SOME road cyclists.

Please note that

  • I do not condone the actions of a littering few (of the 5600, or however many participated in the Berge & Dale race), however to start calling a specific and whole group names is not the way to go about things.
  • All groups, races, colours & creed of people have people who litter, whether they participate in sport or not!

DO NOT TAR AND FEATHER PEOPLE BY THAT BRUSH YOU'D LIKE TO WIELD for whatever reason, as by doing that you are taking a purely bigoted stance!

I agree, are they scared that the extra 3g of empty packaging will slow them down.... I even see it on my mtb route, gel sachets and energade bottles.

Good points but you must please use a larger typeface and consider capitalisation if you wish to compete with initial piggy assertion in the thread title.

I didn't choose that font, the PC chose it for me. I just couldn't be bothered to go back and change it.

Now this is a pig. Throwing bottles...at a fellow road user...

Pretty good aim!

So I stop to pick up the water bottle I dropped in a race ... a bunch comes bearing down on me (about 200 yards away) with someone screaming "Get out the road! Get out the road!"

I was sorely tempted to replace the water bottle exactly where it had been.

I agree that the littering is not acceptable, but all of us roadies do not deserve to be called pigs. I have over many years and at many funrides, of which I do one or two these days, tried to get co-operation in that regard. However, most riders will not. There are indeed many selfish cyclist whose attitude towards other cyclist and motorists compound the issues that we experience these days.
