I'm getting tired of marketing nonsense...

I was reading an article about Rotor rings/Q rings and it goes on about how this can improve your output power...Bla, bla, bla.

It says that studies have SUGGESTED that it can improve your output power by ABOUT a whopping 3%.

And then the article talks about the shifting. Bassically it says that the shifting on these rings is a bit slower than what you would expect. And then the article reminds you that it is still good to always remember to shift early.

When I read this, this is what I read:

You, Joe Public, will not notice any difference in power output gained. Trust me, you won't! It is like a 3% salary increase, ok!

Second, the shifting on these rings are k@k.

It's worse than that.

Studies suggest can be translated as:

We did a test. We saw an increase of 2.9%. But we didn't do any more tests. They might show a power loss. We don't know (and are afraid to look closely in case we find out).

I know of a couple of good riders able to kick your ass swearing by it! ;)

And no....I don't have the money for it......very expensive rings those.... :(

I know a couple more who'll kick my ass without it ;) .

There's a big difference between someone thinking that there is a difference and proper evidence that there is actually a difference. Perception and placebo can have a huge effect.

Those rings might work but only on race-day. Training with them render the effect useless.

Similar to heavy / light wheelset. Train heavy, race light, otherwise no benefit.

I know one thing... They look so damn fine!

But, with the marketing hype, you might have missed this on their site:

I think that takes some balls offering 30 days money back on their product... But then again, do you even do enough mileage to get enough data convincing yourself it does not work?

With all the aero and power percentage improvements now readily available to us over the counter in the form of accessories, supplements, helmets shaped like spaceships,

etc, you would think guys would be able to finish the Tour de France at 80km/h average by now.

And yet how much has the average speed gone up by since the 80's? In le tour or any other big race?

You will probably find a drug-induced spike in the mid-nineties that lasts nearly ten years, followed by a slump back down almost to 80's level again - not quite that low, mostly due to bikes getting lighter.

Rather ask how much less effort HR wise and watts are they putting in due to the improvements?

Yes I thought that too. We can ask but we cannot produce the historical data to answer.

The tour is not the best comparison - probably more interesting to compare a race using the same route, climbs and distance every year.

As far as knowledge goes, Burry Stander is bringing them into SA.

It sort of makes Cherise's comments about them void.....

That said, I have a few mates that say it really works.

They LOOK fast and on my funrider level that is ALL that counts!!

Cashandra Slingerland was using them a season or two ago when she won the SA TT champs. She said it really helped her up her cadence quite a bit.

I am also under the impression that Burry use / used them also.
