igknot Posted January 3, 2012 Share I bought the Giant Anthem x29er 1 2012. It is brilliant. SRAM X9 rear, X7 on the front and for the shifters. Avids to make you stop. 12.9 kg without rider. Rocky climbs that I used to dismount half way up are now considered chicken feed. It has the 2x10 gearing and it does feel as if I am shifting more often, but It could just be that I am now so fast that I have to shift more often. I love it. Duathlete007 Posted January 3, 2012 Share HI Guys/ Girls I am doing my homework on 29er bikes and will be buying soon but give me some advice on the 29er bike range. For about 24K I assume you should be able to get a reasonable good racing bike. I have looked at the 2012 Silverback Storm 1.0Price:R23000 Merida Big Nine Carbon 3000DR26000 which is a bit over my budget Merida Big Nine Carbon 1200DPrice: R21500http://www.kayalamicycles.co.za/2012/bikes/merida/Big.Nine%20Carbon%201200-D.jpg Whar other carbon 29er bikes are there that I can have a look at in the 24K price range? I would prefer Full XT with a good fork or X9 Edited January 3, 2012 by Duathlete007

Duathlete007 Posted January 3, 2012 Share The Merida 3000D and 1200D doesn't differ much on performance but what is better XT or X9?
Sharkie 2 Posted January 3, 2012 Share Scott Scale Expert 29erYip my choice as well, you will be able to get it for roughly R20500, spend the balance on maybe upgrading the cockpit to make it even lighter.

Duathlete007 Posted January 3, 2012 Share Great advice. Yes value wise the 1200D is calling me
philip.maree Posted January 3, 2012 Share Great advice. Yes value wise the 1200D is calling meIf it was me, I would just ask to change the fork on the 1200D. DT Swiss are maintenance intensive/expensive. Think the Fox would be a much better option or a RockShox SID.
Iwan Kemp Posted January 3, 2012 Share Go with the Giant Well-sorted geo for a 29erGreat value for moneyMaestro has a wider tuning range than most suspensionsThe particular model Giant vs Scott the Giant takes it spec-wise.Giant have a lifetime warranty on the frame and have good back-up (regardless of what that other thread said!)
