Concidering that during XC they will do laps where the split times are within seconds. This 1% for them is a massive diff. Have you experienced a 29er? If you have not done at least 100km on a 29er, you cannot comment whether there is an advantage or not. Leave those to the guys that experienced both.

Yes I have and no I am not competing in the world champs this year :D Stop being so defensive. I'm interested in the science and don't have any bias against either bike. Just saying its pointless for the average Fred to shell out for a new bike in order to save a minute over 100kms.

Simple physics...

The 26" can accelerate faster due to 2 factors:

1. Larger centripetal acceleration

2. Weighs less (less material)

The 26" can also maneuver better because of these factors.

However for the 29", even though it may take longer to accelerate, it's easier to maintain speed. It also travels over ruts and holes easier.

So either is good, just depends on what you're using it for...

The 29'er filled a niche amongst those of us knuckle dragging monkeys, since then the little guys have gotten onto them and are trying to justify the reasons for it.

It works for me, will it work for you? Who knows, it might but then again maybe it's just the geometry of the particular bike you're riding and possibly not the wheel size.

All I'm asking for is an end to the marketing BS and for a little bit of sanity and pragmatism to return the industry.

Personally I'm sick of seeing little guys and girls riding bikes they clearly can't steer just because it's the new thing and why do I only ever see the Fisher 29'ers on the road? YEt to see one off road, weird?

For all the guys and girls in JHB (not sure if any of their other branches are participating), Cycle Lab in Fourways have demo Trek Gary Fisher 29" hard and softails that can be ridden to the MTN Bike Park and put through their paces. No cost...no obligations...

Why not give it a try, then your comments will be made from first hand experience.

Because they break when they go off road.

just to put this in perspective. Mr. Suasser is a staunch 26 inch rider and being European does not help that opinion. His team mate Burry offcourse thinks there is nothing better than 29 er wheels except miss Taylors behind. So this is a personal test for Christoff which they have made more public. he has been tweeting the last two weeks about his 29er tests with some wise ass comments from burry.HE rode to Hermanus on 29er and was pretty impressed with the time difference and speed. Dan is also slowly leaning towards that dirrection.

Specialized no longer offer a 26 inch hardtail frame!

just a spanner in the works have you guys heard of the 650cc 27.5 inch wheels? KHS have made the in betweener with great succes. standard gears are better suited with this wheels size and you are not as high of the ground
