Hi all, as we have missed the substitution cut-off date (24 Feb) I am sure there are many out there who are not going to ride at this stage and their entries will be wasted.

My mate (social rider)is keen to do the ride so asked for me to look around for an entry...he is more than happy to pay.

Has anyone ever ridden using somebody else's entry (socially that is). I see on the site they say it is 'illegal'.

thoughts?

I might have two available depending what happens with this Velvet Sky bunch. I have booked to fly with them but I not sure they are going to fly. Now that is illegal, taking peoples money then not supplying the service!!!

if you ride as someone else, and something happens both the person who owned the number and the person using it will be banned for life from riding the Argus.

Substitutions

Substitutions are now closed. No late substitutions will be accepted at Registration. Substitution entries closed on 24 February 2012.

Riding with someone else’s number is illegal. Critical medical and emergency contact information is linked to your race number and is our first port of call in an emergency. With 35 000 cyclists on the road on Race Day it is extremely important that the correct medical information is linked to each race number, to enable our medical team to respond efficiently to any emergency.

Should riders be found riding on someone else’s number, both riders could be sanctioned.

This is off their website. I find it clear to understand. No you cannot.

Rules schmules, just don't fall and need to be hospitalised. It's one part of the Argus that is irritating, "we'll ban you for life". Now step back in line.

The ban is actually only a year for 1st offence and only to the rider who rides with someone else's chip, not the chip provider. Obviously, don't use your own chip.

This is SA, rules are for guidance only....

how hard would substitutions be at the expo? not hard, they used to do it. I missed it last year and ended up riding half the course for fun anyway, took a whole bunch of tools and helped about 7 people fix their bikes on the way. got tuned by a few people for riding without a number but c'est la vie.

so you know, what - stuff them. take a chance. oooooh ban me. whatever. but if you're riding with someone else's number make damn sure that all your OWN info is on you, so if you do end up in accident they know who they're dealing with. then face the ban issues later.

i once borrowed a trail run entry from a girl friend. did my damnest to make sure i didn't do too well, but somehow got on the podium when a few chicks took a wrong turn. was sitting at the drinks stand when they announced the third lady coming in - didn't hang around at all!

Thats *** funny, Murphy's law I tell you..

Not sure what to do myself. Since getting married in dec I have been very bad and have probably not done more than 10 rides this year only one longer than 2 hours..So having a go at it from "B" is going to end up in tears for me any way you look at it..

I almost died 2 weeks ago.. long story but involves lying at the bottom of a pool unconcious for a while so Ive not ridden for 2 weeks..

What to do...

Agreed! So the guide here would be to have the number on when you start, but remove it after the first km... So you may not ride with someone else's number... Then don't... Ride with no number... what can they do? If you can't substitute at the expo, well... Bolts, nuts, screws... Choose one!

"Sorry sir, the number tore as I reached for my goo..."

What is there to think about.

You are not allowed to do it so dont.

Oh wait there goes a cyclist thru the red light.....and he is not wearing a helmut.............send him to purgatory

Right where were we...oh yes about that illegal entry

call me an old fart (you will, I know) but I've had it with this some rules are rules and some aren't. Why can't you just get your act together like everyone else?

There was a *character* last year with no race number who thought it great fun to stuff around in the bunches heading down the Blue Route, trawling crosswise into the traffic. There's always got to be one I suppose...

Back to topic: which rules did y'all say matter??

dumb question! You ride from your group.stop at edinburgh drive for bacon and eggs.cruise to simonstown.stop for a massage. You will be the first ' customer' and extremely popular. Cruise to next pitstop and repeat the cycle.
