The Argus Cycle Tour and the MTB Challenge races are very well organised events, that is of no doubt, probably the best actually... From communication, signage, experience etc. The Expo though, is starting to feel stuck in the 90's way of doing business...

It is a showcase for Cape Town, and South Africa, a city very well equipped for International Expos...

So why not use the world class facilities at the CTICC? The Good Hope Centre is cramped, and an eyesore sadly these days... not to mention the parking, or lack thereof and the dice of death on Sir Lowry road dodging Taxi's and Buses...

Otherwise, there was little to set it aside from previous years, and with the internet providing you with all and more you could and would need to know... the show really needs to be more interactive, the bike companies need to come to the party, it shouldn't feel like a boot sale, which is pretty much how it seems to be now.

It has to be frustrating too for many parties that these outsourced promo people, always, and this is at all (local) Expo's in the Cape, they could not be worse versed in the products they are punting, or show less interest, largely chatting among their colleagues making it impossible for the consumers to engage their products...

So long story short, I feel somewhat underwhelmed, but I know the race day will more than make up for it, and ultimately... that is what I am doing this for

I would not want to see the Expo disappear. By now, 35 years later it should be a more prestigous event.

Venue: As this is a world class event I do think that it should be held at the CTICC. The Good Hope Centre is so done for and yesteryear. It should actually be thrown down. The surrounding area is quite hazardous.

Exhibitor: Why are they not more competitive with their prices! More bicycle brands should be on show. Why are all our LBS not present? etc.

Perhaps the organises should make use of an events company to give them some pointers or to actually organise the event.

I was seriously disappointed.

i was surprised the upper level wasnt turned into a little test track, so all that shiny bling on the show floor could be put to some quasi real-world testing..

Cost of Putting the Expo at the ICC Will take ALL the profits Cycle Tour Trust are making. Less for PPA.

highly doubt that as they are sponsored alot by quite a few organizations , and we collectively also gave a fat income by entering... so i think its fair to say it should be held at CTICC

and it going to CTICC is going to up the quality of the stalls how exactly? It will just be the same, but cost more.. It's gonna be like the malls in this country, or take WC for that matter: canal walk, blue route, cavendish, V&A, Tygervalley, The Paddocks etc etc etc..different spit and polish, but the same old same old. How will moving it to CTICC upgrade the content?

btw: stopped at the Dakine stall, and asked for backpacks that take full face helmets. 3 diff sales reps, three different faces with exact same quizzical look. It was ironic, because the all posters on the backwall were free riders ripping some massive new jumps and drops a new one.. I had to giggle.. :P

The expo is the one aspect of the Argus that can still be grown. The only way to attract the top brands directly (not through their locabl distributors) would be to market the expo better, and this starts with having the correct venue. With the CTICC you'd be able to have the expo over 2 days instead of 3 if cost is an issue.

Visited expo yesterday and got pretty much what I expected.

Same exhibitors, in their same stands, selling the same goods as they do every year, at a slightly higher price.

CWC again seemed to attract the most shoppers.

I was glad to see Solomons there, but they don't seem to be very well prepared or stocked, and have possibly the smallest stand at the Expo.

PS: one change noted is that the official merchandise in the basement is now Pick 'n Pay and not SportsmansWharehouse. :)
