I rode in C group & saw no crashes, but saw the aftermath of several incidents on the side of the road.

It was a tough day out there.

The contestation for bunch position in VB bunch surprised.

Lots of risk taking and aggro attitude.

Racing is tough. Yet, I was surprised at the competitiveness - often putting safety 2nd.

There was another crash into the barriers with a B bunch rider, I think, who took 4 riders with him.

Right at the final Powerade foot bridge just before the finish.

My mother was in that crash, someone cut the lady up and went over. She is in hospital but is fine, back to Pretoria tomorrow. Her bike is not ok. My mother got away with cuts and bruises and borrowed a front wheel to finish. There were two guys who broke colar bones in that crash.

few crashes in the slow coaches groups: mostly due to cramps and dehydration. There was this group of two or three ppl singing " suikerbossie wil jou he", and my word, was it prophetic: it was lined with the wounded. Hardly a surprise given the heat, and the lack of simple water. who would have thought, that it's easier to get shitty coke and powerade, and be denied water because of marketeering. yikes. Bless those kind souls that hosed down the riders. Those splashes were godsends.

200000000 near crshes in A group..

only saw one minor crash in the bunch at Millers Point.

Carbon and tar dont sound so good together......

There was a crash on Edinburgh Drive, some box decided to stop dead in the middle of the road and the poor guy behind him was looking down at that very second. Slammed so hard into this guy that he almost flew straight over the said box!

u know, we call the guys that stop in the middle of nowhere boxes, but as far as I could tell in the latter groups, most of those guys (and gals), couldnt help it: those cramps would stop any one dead, and most try to stop before the cramp sets in proper, just when it 's twinging. It's dumb from the other, following riders perspective, but the reality is, sometimes it cant be avoided. tough situation.

But for those, like that dude fetching his all precious water bottie... box is too nice a word. (nb: the bottle was important: it was smoking hot, but he could've done it at a better time).

Suikerbossie felt double the length yesterday... much longer than in training!

I put the responsibility for the crash in the VB group staight on the shoulders of the orginizers, people are seeded into buches that they should not be in, and the bunches were to big, VB, VM and % all together, come on, do it like the 94.7 and split it 40 - 44, 45-49 etc, ladies own bunch, will make it safer and more enjoyable, the race yesterday was very negative and not hard so some of these guys where still their at the end, they then believe that they might actually be able to win, and guess what, not being used to being in tha situation leads to tired riders, trying to sprint, not holding their lines and wheels touching, COME ON TOUR ORGINISERS get it right, this for me is one of the most dangerous races every year due to this problem
