.....so I see Albassini from Green Edge took the first stage comfortably from a long break away, eventually leaving his break away partners and going it alone. Despite the peletons best efforts they couldn't pull him back and he won fairly comfortably.

Green edge are certainly going to races with the aim of winning and not just riding, which I sort of get the impression some of the other teams are doing.

Did he wheelsuck before leaving the breakaway? :whistling:

It is immaterial whether he wheel sucked or not during the race, that massive breakaway earned him the podium.

Quite a big stage today, big climb and the finish at the bottom of the descent, I reckon first over the climb is the winner, I am gonna say Valverde will contest this one, looks like his kind of climb and finish, but just to hedge my bets I also liked the Little Prince (Cunego) at the Paris / Nice and he is climbing like a spider again, so that's my thoughts, any other idea's.?

Valverde looks a strong contender this year he packs some punch ! I take it he will be skipping the giro and riding the tour ? I heard last night that jacob fuglsang has spent two weeks training at high altitude, he is a rider that could cause a surprise later on in the year.

Yeah, Valverde is really on form, and so is Jacob I think, although my guess is he will be looking after baby Schleck here who definitely isnt on form.

Actually the teams have sent some strong riders to the Volta, Nieve from Euskaltel is another one who may chance it today, Arroyo even Leipheimer, but I think Movistar and Valverde are very motivated, if they get him up near the top with just a few select riders, I think he will take it.
