Throw in the easybike, its nice to have choice between 3 online shops...I have dealt with all three of them, only a pleasure

Ja, funnily enough I saw the Easybike link on the thread for lights, looks like they have some reasonably priced stuff as well.

those order confirmation emails are just like consolation prizes. the real win is who delivers first.

..and from my experience (I've placed multiple orders with both CWC and Buycycle)...

Buycycle charges a lot for shipping. They're based in Centurion/PTA, I'm in Bryanston. In one instance they charged me R180 to ship a box (400 x 400 x 600mm, wieghing approx 2kg). The shipment took 3 days.

CWC on the other hand charged R90 for a box of similar size and weight. The order was placed at 2pm on a thursday. I had it at my desk before 10am the next day. So from that point of view, CWC wins.

I still buy from Buycycle though... especially when they have an old stock clearance (TLD Lopes knee-shins for R220... vs the R900 they charge in MX shops... win!)

I was at CWC today, quite a large purchase.

They gave me a 10% discount, offered to fit tubulars for free, and courier the parcel to my house free of charge.

Great Service from CWC

tell me about it!

did my first purchase with BuyCycle last week, just before the easter weekend. Shipment was split into two. Got the first item on tuesday. Awesome!

No tracking/status on second parcel though - and when I emailed they said they were still waiting for confirmation from me! wtf? tuesday sent email asking what's what. No response. I again inquired/phoned in on wed morning, indicated that it would've been really awesome to get the goods before the weekend - if at all possible. No status update/response for 48 hrs. Was about to write a rant on here - but lo and behold, parcel dude walks in with my goodies.

Kudos to BuyCycle for that - status updates/customer feedback could be improved though!

Excellent service at CWC have being ordering online for a while and always had next day delivery at my door. Also had a online order at Buycycle where I waited a whole week for delivery.Keep up the awesome service CWC.

I have been a supporter of CWC for quite some time, but i have to admit, that even though online's service is still great there are now quite a few things that are starting to irk me about CWC.

1. The lack of stock they keep these days at online, on a couple of occasions i was forced to buy from buycycle now, because CWC simply doesnt have stock on items, mails get answered with we are expecting shipment end of the month etc, but come end of the month the same items are still not in stock.

2. The fact that out of stock items dont get removed from the site or marked immediatly as out of stock, which means every week i log in, i check the item to be greeted with the out of stock icon under the main item properties.

3. looking at the XT brakes so it says 2390 on the main page, so you go to the item properties page and guess what "silver XT is apparently 2390 and conveniantly out of stock, but "Black" XT brakes are in stock and only selling for about R600 more R2999. Same brakeset two diff prices and incorrectly displayed on the main page.

And my last grip i have is when you are looking to buy certain items and the main description doesnt clearly state 26" or 29" so you have to go into every item to fine out what its inteded for, and then yet again most of the items I need are out of stock again. I decided 3 months ago when this started irritating me i wont rant about it but damnit enough is enough.

Simple

1. Put the correct pricing on and dont try underhanded price schemes to draw intererest.

2. Clearly label the main descriptions for intended wheelsize of make different categories for 26, 27.5 and 29.

3. If you dont have an item in stock do not display it, if you want to display it then mark the main icon with red to indicate stock levels, and enable a pre-order button that if someone is willing to wait at least you can pre-order.

End of RANT.

But besides that still a steller shop :)

Both are good, pricing to competative but cwc win on delivey turnaround. By the time cwc have delivered the goods - bycycle are still mailing around the courier contact detailsm cwc beat bycycle on delivery by 3 days. But top points to both stored.

My problem with both is the delivery charge.

It makes sense for more expensive items but makes little sense when you need things under R500. If I am wanting something for R300 it makes little sense to buy it online and have to add R80 odd for delivery (thus adding around 25% to the price!). I realise they might not be that interested in the hassle of selling the smaller items but surely these are items that sell quantity.

They really should update their systems to take into account volume and charge delivery accordingly.

Delivery charges in South Africa are out of line with the first world and makes interweb shopping a very difficult business to run. We don't have a Parcel Force like in the UK where smaller volume items can be delivered nest day to your door for as little as 3 quid, our Post Office is slow and unreliable (although relativley cheap) and not to door for parcels. The result, we use couriers.

At R80 minimum courier charge the retailer is not making extra money from you on the courier fees, in fact I doubt the courier is making money. Now why should a retailer, who has given you a saving on the price of R300 item have to pay the courier? Weight dependent SAPO would charge you R35 for a week to the post office and collect service.

We do see free delivery over certain amounts, the cost of delivery is absorbed out of margin to encourage bigger orders. It is still paid by someone.

There is no cheaper alternative available, logistics cost stifle online business in this country.

Simple solution? There isn't one until SAPO lifts their game and we are offered an alternative free in so many days or paid overnight to your door.

And if you're a nice guy you can even negotiate on price if you've seen it cheaper elsewhere. Most shops I know give a 10% to 15% discount to regulars. And offer bigger discounts on slow moving stuff.
