Saw the highlites on DSTV last night of the last stage and saw some of the Pro riders riding on the section that is supposed to be a compulsary portage due to the historic signafigance of that section.

Whats up with that?

It made me mal when I was watching it live. Stauser walked the entire section while the rest of the chasing pack all rode that section. To me that was blatant cheating and ignoring the rules.

Luckily Stauser was too strong on the day and once again rode away after that...

I could not understand the way of thinking behind the walking on the historical monument part. Surely 1200 MTB shoes with studs on the bottom will do more damage than 1200 rubber tyres pumped with air??

I saw that too, but i think the compulsory portage was only the down section and burry and christoph thought it was the whole bit before aswell? So i dont think the others "cheated"...

I thought the same during last years Wine2 Whales. On the other hand, riding down that, is much more likely to end up with more broken bones than the medics could cope with! It is a LOT gnarlier than it looks on TV.

Songo ran the whole section whilst the entire chasing pack rode it to the top. Although it didnt matter in the end they cetainly made up gound on Burry and CS. I think Songo may have got it wrong.

OK so it is actually more to the safety of the rider. Thanks that makes more sense. :)
