Hi All

On a flight from JHB to CPT on Friday the good people at Mango thought it good to pack my bike under a pile of lead, books and other heavy stuff and broke my rear derailleur hanger.

Not a problem I though. I'll just go get a new one....

This proved to be harder than I though as I have a Viper's Concept Carbon Pro. I bought it second hand and did not realize the parts are not available locally (my bad, I know and I'll take the abuse for it). I,ve managed to find it online at a shop in Italy that charges 40 euro's shipping. That's quite a bit and I'd prefer to avoid that. It works out to almost R700 for a drop out !!!

Does anyone know where I can find this part somewhere else or know someone that has a spare or something, ANYTHING. I have Sani2C coming up in 3 weeks and well, I'm pretty screwed without it.

Anyone, any thoughts, please help !!!

I know it doesn't help you - but a friend of mine had a similar problem once and now I always unscrew my derailleur & hanger (leaving the cable attached) and tie wrap it to the seat stay.

Good luck.

Any half decent fabrication establishment should be able to fashion one out of alloominum .... just copy the sample & make 2 so you have a spare.

I actually have a guy looking at it right now. He recons he can make it, we'll see what he comes up with. Only thing i'm not sure abt is if it will still function. i.e. its designed to break, instead of the frame and derailleur. Its made from a "purpose designed" alloy, etc. Will this have any effect on it if its made from something else and kinda looks the same as the original?

Just have the hanger made, make sure your bike is insured and if you fall and something breaks you have financial back up, have you taken the hanger to various stores to see if by chance another hanger might fit?

And if they not very busy they will do it in 30 minutes .
