Hi there

We'll since there is another discussion, let me ask this so long,

Got a potential trip to Dubai in June/July.

What shops are there, should I think about picking something up while there, price wise is it worth it.

Would totally agree Wolfi's is the place to go! Brought some stuff back from there before, had a problem with a CS200 and luckily went back 2 weeks later and had it sorted in 10 minutes :)

Having been to Dubai a few times, I would not recommend Wolfi's, I found the service garbage and they did not do all they asked to be paid for. Not on my best bike shop list! Probably on my list of worst lbs. Otherwise, prices for bikes in Dubai pretty much the same as in SA. Other stuff, computors, clothes hear rate monitors much cheaper, but visit the electronic shops - SHARAF (spelling) - for example, or some of the non specialist sports shops.

Can't think of the name at the mo, but there is a 'newish' bike shop that is worth visiting. Has a local, South African, partner and they are enthusiasts and have offered some very good deals. Will look for the name and number and post here, if I can find it.

I've been to Dubai a few times and only came across a Specialized and Cannondale store.

Its situated on Sh Zayed Road.

Not many cyclists in Dubai so range pretty limited, but prices were quite good.

One of our local PMB riders, Clint Olsen, is now working at Wolfi's... Might be worth getting hold of him?

Think you're talking about "Revolution". They haven't opened yet put should any day now.

Wolfi's aint to bad on service depending who you get. Ask for Koos or King. They'll sort you out. They are pricey though.

There's also Ride Bike Shop in most malls, Probike (used to have a great website) and AdventureHQ. They're all a bit cheaper.

Actually there is a lot of cyclists in Dubai! Believe it or not, they have built a proper cycle path dedicated to cyclist. Now at about 90km's round trip.

As for the prices, they are almost the same as SA.

Shops to Visit -

The Ride Bike Shop - Mirdif City Centre - soon to be in Shaik Zaid Road

Revolution Cycles - Motor City

Wolfies mentioned above

Probike

You could also order from CRC and deliver it to your hotel here and save on the VAT in SA and duties is only about 5% if charged.

Delivery from CRC to Dubai is like 3 days.

If you can take a short trip to Abu Dhabi less than 2hrs. I found sunglass prices decent in malls and AD is big on promoting sports even triathlon. Sadly I never got to any bike shops as my stay was very short. Maybe someone else can advise where to go.

I am dead keen to go to Abu Dhabi, only been in and out of the Airport but I believe its really nice to visit, the Ferrari hotel and track is something I really want to visit as well. Been to Dubai a few times, great once but afterwards I got bored.

AD is awesome. I was lucky enough to go to the F1 last year there. The rollercoaster at Ferrari world will try and tear your face off. Try and go on the dessert trip with a 4x4 and have supper in the dessert at a Bedouin camp complete with a belly dancing show. I stayed at Beach Rotana hotel in city centre right next to a big mall.

Yeah, I think AD will be my next vacation stop. Everyone I have chatted to tells me its really nice and the people very friendly and helpful. I would love to go to an F1 race there, I went to one in Hungary many years back (when Michael Schumacher was still winning :D ) and it was super, I think at a modern track like AD it must be a wonderful spectacle.
