Glad someone mentioned the redesigned Avids, that have taken into account of the bleed issues and rotor warble of the previous years' avids. Nice one North Shore

word to those going for the 2011 Avid Codes (not Code R):for some reason, they seemed to go soft frequently after frequent usage. I've since stopped using their stock Dot 5 brake fluid and gone with a high performance Dot 4 brake fluid from Motul: RBF 600. Havent needed to bleed em brakes since.

Elixir CR brakes: biggest crap ever designed. Yikes! Bit harsh, but good thing it's just a subjective, singularly emotive opinion. ;)

I must really bought from the lucky batches.

Me too... Strange. And I haven't needed to bleed them brakes once.

TO anyone looking to offload any, and I mean ANY, Avids, gimem a shout. I need to replace the current Tektro CRAP on my XCAMHT. I'm keen to get any free "shaite" brakes with the name AVID on the lever / caliper

Seeing as these are the new spec ones I should give then an objective go...I already know the XTs are stunning - maybe the Avids are as nice now.

This is now my 4 set of avids ( had juicy 5, juicy 7, juicy ultimate and now on XO) and i ,must admit they haven't given me a days trouble. Will buy them again and will keep buying avid

My Avid XX's are extremely annoying.

At The Mast Challenge a few weeks back at the bottom it was fine, at the top the front brake was soft, and by the time I was down again it was back to normal...

Considering replacing them with XTR or Formula R1's, but I think the XTR's are slightly more reliable...

have juicy ultimates and no complaints at all, infact, installed in 2007 and dont think theyve been blead ever. But then put full XT on my hardtail, those brakes are indeed in a class of its own. So juicy not bad (in fact real good) but XT make them look/feel ratheer average.

I started off with Shitmano without knowing any better but i have now been converted to Avid.

i have sets of J3's, 2 x J5's and Elixir 5's

Im running an Elixir 5 on my Trials bike with a 160mm rotor and I can do a front wheel move without any slip, power and modulation are perfect.

J3's with GR conversion on my Slope Style bike and they are still working perfectly at the bottom of the hill.

I am running XT's on my new bike......... and they are really good :-), however, the Avid Elixers i run on my other bike are just as good, After I fit the XO pads............ they really are worth the extra R100

So I'm running both and I think they're both good.... To each his own I guess
