Hmmm...

Short stems, long forks, not quite completely XC race bikes. I'd love to see what they could do with the full setup monty.

I took my Kona Kula (full XC setup, 75mm fork) down the Canary Trail in Jonkershoek two weekends ago, it was surprisingly quick, so much so that I kept up with my two brothers on 5.5" bikes all the way down. A little sketchy, but it made me realise that it's to a large extent all in the mind! ;)

and those head angles MH? ;) I'm sure that has a bigger effect on handling in the rough and steeps than stems. Besides, it's the frame rating that counts in this instance.

I may be wrong, but I don't think their bikes were too far off the original XC setup. The Element 70 MSL runs a 120mm fork as standard. You'll probably find they just ran better components (like the Fox Factory forks, instead of the Fox Performance forks), and like you say... controls to suit. But yeah... travel wise... the Element 70 MSL is a 120mm front and back bike.

Also, there should be another disclaimer...

NOTE: No 29ers were harmed in the making of this video... simply because these bikes are NOT 29ers

Patches, did you measure the handlebars? :whistling:

I tried freeze framing it a few times to work out a factor by which I could measure the bars... but no luck

But I bet they're man sized... ie. 700mm or wider

Good show, maybe one day when I have a 29er ...maybe :whistling:

Why would you want a 29er... so that you can't do all that?!

The bikes used are 26ers

Have to remember the RM designs all their bikes with a trail setup in mind, even their "racing" bikes tend to lean towards a AM design. they proud themselves on making bikes compatible to northshore conditions. And even that quirp about the 29'ers i dare you to take the RM element for a sping and then come chirp them again. That bike absolutly ROCKS! :D
