I decided to go to Van Gaalens for a late morning ride. I was having a great time, really giving it a go on the single track and on my way back next to the river. Next moment I came around a corner at speed to find a bunch of 'idiots' having a 'tea party' and a chat in the middle of the trail. I started to brake and swerved out only to have my handlebar get caught in the reeds and the bike ripped out from under me. Needless to say I went over the bars and ended up with a few scratches and bruises. My just-serviced bike ended up with a broken rear hangar, and a few other broken bits and pieces.

I was livid! The only response from this bunch was "Are u ok?". No apologies for standing in the middle of the trail or anything like that....

i just don't understand why you cannot move off the trial if you are not riding it, to make way for other who are. it's just common sense and common decency.

Now I have to fork out to repair my bike because others aren't thinking for themselves.

if you are not riding -MOVE OUT OF THE WAY!

Eish :S sorry.

Next time just ride into them! You'll no doubt still walk away sore and bike a mess but at least those idiots will learn the hard way - they'll also be bruised and hopefully their bikes a bit of a mess.

There were a couple of morons on the Honda ride on Sunday fixing their bikes on the trail. How thick can you be? Just move a couple of metres off the trail.

And we wonder why there are so many vehicle accidents in RSA...!

You have my vote. Nothing irritates me more than a couple of dorks blocking the trial with no thought of other cyclist.

This is THE major draw back of mountain biking now that it has become the new golf. So many riders with little consideration of what others may be doing and little understanding of the lines and run offs when travelling at speed.

Bet they are all having a chuckle over a beer at "that guy that wiped out right in front of us" too. :cursing:

Being more of a roadie I was quite amazed there are dumb@ss MTBers like that when I saw them!

the best is when they stop on a sharp corner on a descent to eat their peanut butter sandwich and take group pics.....argh.....been there before but luckily I was able to park my MTB in a bush...but i think the cherry on the top is when they ask....'Are YOU okay?'....

Think we all have to remember, we all start there, I'm not far from there still, only riding a couple of months,

no one will know better if not told politely what the implications of their actions are.

But can also say, I use to ride quads, allot, long days of out rides, 300-400 km a day, and then you have the 3.2.1 group, 3 Liter Cortina, 2 L coke, and 1 Liter Brandy, sadly it seems a large part of them is now migrating over to Mtb, and well, for them there is no help, other than try and avoid them.

Van Gaalens really should implement directionality because you often can't see through trees etc. As per my post on Saturday, I was nearly in a high speed crash right on the edge of the riverbank, and it was a long way down. As for people stopping in the trail... Ai!
