It is more useful for breaking up the bunch to have it in, but it certainly does have a very minor affect on the time.

The South Easter is the big determinant of race times.

Boyes is a little variable.

took 3 years to do the first bit, so yeah.. at least a year

I would have thought it must be worth at least 5 if not 10 minutes? Based on this yr's results that would have meant an extra 300 to 700 sub 3's (over and above the 570 who made it...)

 

On the other hand I must say I think the race would lose a bit of chatrachter without it (I've only ever done the current route)

That would really cut down on the Sub 3s

You can then really be proud to do a sub 3.

As Lucky Luke pointed out the construction on the Main Road is going to move past Kalk Bay towards Fish Hoek then that side of the mountain will be out completely which means OKW

I'm much further back in the field, so have no idea what it is like, but I would have thought that the fast stretch after Smits would be scarier in a crazy bunch. What on earth do the racing snakes do going UP Smits that make it so dangerous? Please enlighten an old slow dude.

 

Btw, I like Boyes as part of the route.

only 25kph but the jostling for position, the non-climbers following Andrew's advice of "move to the front on the climbs so you can drift back" coinciding with those Norwegian nut jobs putting down the hammer....not a good mixture
