For fingers buy a box of surgical gloves from Dischem. Wear them inside your winter gloves. Pierce a small hole for a bit of ventilation.

For toes, place a Jiffy bag over your toes, in between the pairs of socks, not directly on your skin as you will perspire. Tjeep, tjeep.

Really cool, thanks.

Minor hijack alert...

While cold fingers are an issue the real problem I have (and others based on the discussions around our group on a weekend ride) is cold/numb toes. It's only May and to date the winter has been fairly mild, but on early morning rides the toes are already feeling the bite...

Toe-warmers have been spectacularly ineffectual as have two pairs of socks. Are booties the answer? Thermal socks? Anyone found a solution they would like to share?

I use sealskins socks, waterproof and keeps the feet nice and toastie, and it breaths so when it gets hotter you dont overheat. but if that doesnt work for you the only thing that does is feet in plastic bags, then socks then ride.

So how cold is it going to be out in the Magaliesburg this Saturday?

I

if this last weekend is anything to go by, it'll be a chilly start but will warm up pretty quick.

I had a 630am start at Van Gaalens on Saturday and it was so painful at first, bitterly cold!! but after an hour or so it got a lot better, so considering the start times of the Monster, it'll definitely be a cold start but i'm sure it'll warm up very quick.

forecast for Sat is little to no wind, 6 degree low and 23 high.

Just bought glove liners from Sportsmans, R119.

Did a ride with these yesterday till around 5:30pm, temp was hovering at a balmy 11 deg here. Did they make any difference? Yes they did, but it wasn't anything to rave about! I also bought a First Ascent base layer thing from Sportmans at R199, that made some difference to my chest area but did very little to keep my arms warm. Looks like you just have to freeze for your fun!

What does everyone use to keep the back and front of neck/ears and head warm? I have a motorbike neckwarmer but its waaaaayyyy to warm for the bike!

Buff. At start of ride (at its coldest) I wear it like a balaclava. Once it get warmer, I just put it ontop of my head, just covering my ears.

Ensure that you do not slow down your circulation with too many pairs of socks or gloves that are too tight. That merely exacerbates the problem.

How about a comp, like endomondo, but not distance based, rather temp based, then we'll see who has the kit, and the balls, and the gloves to hold it out. See who can record the lowest temp. But, rides must be at least 45 minutes. :D
