Why didn't you put the bike in your car?

I was thinking the same thing. Good on you though  , what a bummer that it was sold for R80, maybe you will see it again and can offer the guy who bought it some cash.

Be vigilant and careful when you confront another without having the facts...

It's risky business.

You can get hurt, even if you meant well.

Nothing personal, but the one thing that gets me more than crime in this country, it's people who stand by with this attitude, people who know better.

The law is not always on our side, especially if you don't have all the facts.

As somebody pointed out, even trying to do the right thing can hurt.

Self styled justice is even more dangerous.

I was in Hekpoort, JHB over the December holidays, where my aunt introduced me to proper mountain biking at Breedt's Nek. Having ridden her (not so inexpensive) Trek 5300 over to the shebeen on the other side, it is amazing to see how many people are riding bikes (KTM's, Scott 29er Carbons etc...) that they could not possibly afford. Needless to say, I'm pretty sure not even lance could've beaten me back to top of the hill.

Big ups to the OP, I had no idea what I should or could have done.

Imagine the bike was still there and you took it on your bakkie, on the way to the LBS the real owner recognise the bike and accuse you of stealing it

The thing is I fell for the Nigerians attempt to be honest. I really felt that the bike would be safe until I could collect it. He even told me that he wanted to klap the thief................... in hindsight I dont think he wanted to klap him for stealing I think he wanted to klap him for getting caught out. Harsh lesson learnt today. You cant trust these okes

Very good job on helping out ! I'd say you did enough ! As for the prawn..I hope there's a place in hell reserved for people who steel bikes.

Quite possible the Nigerian is involved. He hid the bike in the back and spun you a story.

Where about in Bloem did this happen?

+1 on this. Take the cops there and see what his story is. He has in fact now handled stolen goods and more then likely is an illegal immigrant that might sing like a canary when pressed for more info.

Problem is getting a cop of his fat lazy ass in Bloem to do anything.

When I still stayed there I was good friends with a guy in the flying squad. Never had problems getting things resolves. My dad was also really well connected with the police. Too bad things have gone for a ball of crap in that place.

thats classic ...... the dude sells a bike that isnt even his and is just left in the shop for 2 minutes ... thats wonderful ... but i think he was asking too much for the bike anyway ... :whistling: hahaha

Think the OP was driving in his car and had to take this back home to get the bakkie to load the bike. Probably lives close enough to rather do this than take off wheels etc to load the bike in the car.

He asked the Nige chap to watch over the bike until he got back with the bakkie to load the bike.
