KidCharlemagne Posted May 30, 2012 Share As a roadie doing this event for the first time can I get some comments on the technicality of the route. Thanks
Showtime Posted May 30, 2012 Share If you are referring to the oyster festival one there is nothing you need to worry about. Maybe a few muddy patches by then but mostly just wide flowing roads.

nickc Posted May 30, 2012 Share Mostly jeep track and forest dirt roads, stunning scenery and a couple of climbs, but easily rideable for a roadie and a great ride.

Zac.A Posted May 30, 2012 Share I did it when I was 13 and had no technical ability whatsoever The route changed for that year because of the world cup (players were staying in the golf estate, security reasons etc) and they skipped a technical part, but it's almost a road event on tar, except for the steps. Showtime Posted May 30, 2012 Share I've taken this event off my calendar. It's nice enough but I save my Knynsa trip for the 3 day race in June (RE:CM 200 this year). Because there is less people they can take you take places that are not possible with the oyster festival so the riding is unbelievable. milky4130
Selous Scout (aka LegTrap) Posted May 30, 2012 Share I've done it a few times and have always enjoyed it.The scenery is great through the forests etc.The toughest part about the ride is going up Simola hill which is a few km's into the ride.It is probably around 2 1/2 to 3km's long and is steep-don't under estimate it. I'm pretty sure it has always been 60 km's but I see it is now 50km's ,so something must have changed. It isn't really technical,a few bumps/stones etc but I'm sure you will easily cope.See you there.
GLuvsMtb Posted June 22, 2012 Share Biggest challenge is to get clear track (like with Die Burger MTB, Argus MTB and any mtb race with more than 1000 entrants). Routes converge about 8km from the finish, so if you're quick in the 50km, you'll hit the 75km mid pack riders. If you are not quick, you'll hit the 75km back markers. LOSMEICHERIE Posted June 23, 2012 Share Heita  First question have you rode off road before ? If not start now alone and get buddy who knows about mountain biking to show how its and to give you tips, trust me road and mountain are totally different things.Mountain biking is not difficult but you need to how its done. http://www.mtbtips.com/beginner-mountain-biking-tips/  Good luck. Previously used to be 42km's. The ride is not technical at all. Only the tiny little bit of singletrack near the end, but its short and most people walk it.
