So yeah... I'm the most recent victim of a home burglary. My TV (46" let me add, no small feat to carry, so there were at least 2), a laptop & a desktop hard drive (2TB with about 500gb or so of free space). But get this, that's all that was taken. They came in through the front door (between 0900 & 1100 we guestimate); cut the driveway gate lock, crowbarred the security gate & hit the front door lock to smithereens. All this in record time since the neighbours didnt hear the alarm which leads us to think it might have been bypassed somehow.

So after spending most of yesterday with the security company, insurers & handy man, I'm devoting some time to tracking these degenerates down based on a hunch I have. If any hubbers know some people who know some who know how to do certain things we won't mention here, drop me a line.

Sooo over being the victim.

over & out

this sounds like they knew your place....where do you live?

That's what I think. It must be somebody that knew what was there. I'm in Claremont (Cape Town).

Sorry to hear that!

I am also in Claremont. There has been quite a bit of dodgy activity lately.

Our sliding gate was lifted off the motor so they could get into the car port a few nights ago. Our cars were locked, but our neighbours weren't so lucky...

The cops got some guy loitering around the neighbourhood the other night. He caused such a scene by screaming like a woman being attacked. Scared the hell out of me!

Be sure to install MacKeeper first thing.. Will tell you where your Mac is and will take a photo of who's using it and send it to you via e mail.

The lifting of the gates is quite common, I welded some chain onto the poles at either end and now padlock both ends of our electric gate to the poles at night!

Thanks Splat... yeah the coppers said there's been a spate of break-ins in the adjoining suburbs. A colleague just told me that it may be a gang (the front door gang or somehting that) who "specialize" in this sort of break-in.

I heard of a similar incident in Rondebosch just off Kromboom Rd. They obviously a syndicate targeting same approach of entry and going for Lcds, PCs etc.

Im sorry this happened to you, its an invasion of privacy. They’re getting away because nobody Is challenging these Funkers!

who is your security company?

heard some dodgy stories about where they suspect them, because there's no other way of getting into the place without disarming the alarm........ and after every burglary at this particular place (they had 3 in 2 years time if i remember correctly) they were told that the alarm never went off, but it is set when they go in..........

You may be right. We've become too content with letting the insurance kick in & replace things. I'm ready to go Dexter on these thugs.
