GhostRider2 Posted June 1, 2012 Share Hi hubbers I have a Bianchi Pulse 26er with a 100mm fork. Can I change that to 140mm? Can any frame take any fork with more travel? Here's the bike: http://www.sportmonamour.it/images/products/39108/img2.jpg Edited June 1, 2012 by GhostRider2
gummibear Posted June 1, 2012 Share Why do you want it 140mm?
GhostRider2 Posted June 1, 2012 Share I can get a good deal on one. Why would I not want to increase? I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to such things.
Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted June 1, 2012 Share GR, if you have the REBA on the front, you can increase it to 120mm without having to break the bank. There's a spacer in the fork itself that can be removed to ramp the travel up to its maximum level. REBA forks have 3 settings, changed through the addition / removal of spacers. patches Posted June 1, 2012 Share Increasing the travel on will slacken the head angle of the bike. This does 2 things... changes the geometry (possibly to a setup that isn't as ridable) and more importantly... it puts extra stress on the headtube. If the frame was not designed for the new slack head angle it may crack. Also the manufacturer probably won't cover the frame's warranty if the fork used is over a certain size. So my recommendation... don't put a bigger travel fork on just because it's a bargain. It may change the handling for the worse... it may crack the frame. geecee Posted June 1, 2012 Share in short, dont put a longer travel fork on a bike that isnt designed to run that travel. especially on an xc bike. also i dont really see you needing 140mm if you are xc riding. if you are more into trail/am get the appropriate bike
El Dodgius Bastardo Posted June 1, 2012 Share Short answer, yes. It's your bike and you can do what you want with it. That having been said, I wouldn't go more than 120, 140 is probably going to change the geometry substantially.

That frame is made for a 100mm fork and a 140mm will change the geometry quite a bit.Not all REBA forks are 120mm
MintSauce Posted June 1, 2012 Share ^^^What they said. If you want more travel, rather get the right tool for the job. ThePubSA

You just need a few tools & you have to be a bit 'handy' You can PM me your e-mail & I'll forward you the tech manual or you can download it from here: http://www.sram.com/sites/default/files/techdocs/2011-reba-technical-manual.pdf or http://www.sram.com/service/rockshox/7,103,434 140mm might be a bit much. Check the manufacturer's specs. El Dodgius Bastardo
