He must be lying, the dutch newspaper has said they will be suspended and what would the newspaper have to gain by lying.

Vaughters also declined to confirm whether or not the story was true, but a statement he read out to media made it clear where the Garmin-Sharp team and its riders stood.

“Our sole focus is on Slipstream Sports. We created Slipstream because we wanted to create a team where cyclists could compete 100 percent clean,” he stated. “It is an organization built on the core values of honesty, fairness and optimism. Slipstream is built on the belief in our ability to contribute to changing the sport's future through a persistent commitment to the present.

“As we have always said, we expect that anyone in our organization who is contacted by any anti-doping or government authority will be open and honest with that authority but at this moment, we - our organization, our riders and our staff - are focused on the Tour de France. We won our first Grand Tour in May and to achieve similar success here, we need to focus on that.”

As regards talk of six month bans being negotiated and beginning in September, thus taking in most of the off-season, he denied that. “We can confirm that our Tour team is entirely focused on the Tour and media reports of suspensions are untrue.”

Yeah, not to Hijack the thread but if you want to see American sport fans and the absolute media power they wield, take a trip to Daytona and go to a Nascar sport event, they routinely fill 250.000 (thats two hundred and fifty thousand) seats for every race and its broadcast non stop on every American sport channel, sometimes for almost the entire day with the preliminary events etc. The drivers are absolute sport icons and earn millions for one race, Thats American sport fan power.!

I do not disagree....but cycling just doesn't have the same media impact in America...but the american sources of sponsorship could be affected

101SCC, that's the giggle of the day! Off for a ride, now, before some more Tour viewing! Great afternoon all.

Sure, I agree it doesnt have the same impact, and I also agree on sponsorship, Radioshack as an eg. came onboard as a sponsor of the team only after been solicited by LA, at the time it was good publicity and their head office is also in Austin so LA was the home town boy, not sure they would be so obliging now if they were courted by LA and company.

Scotty please tell me there's sarcasm hidden in that statement of yours... There's more wholly made up stories in the press than fact.

The conspiracy continues:

And how's this gem!

"So let me get this straight ... come in and tell them exactly what they wanted to hear and you get complete immunity AND anonymity? I never got that offer," Armstrong wrote in an email to The Associated Press. "This isn't about Tygart wanting to clean up cycling — rather it's just a plain ol' selective prosecution that reeks of vendetta."

Er, Lance, why would you need a deal if you were oh-so-squeaky clean?

His really been spitting his guts out on Facebook. Haven't had time to read the comments but ever since twitter came about, handing him direct access to the fans, not having to reach them through the media his kicked up quite a lot of hype amongst followers. Damn! If this blows up in his face....

He's obsessed with social media. I fear he isn't managing it so well.

The Slipstream statement:

http://velonews.comp...tigation_118885

We cannot change what happened in the past. But we believe it is time for transparency.

Wasn't Slipstream's whole reason for existing to be able to prove that you can compete dope-free, and to be totally transparent up front, with all of their training / recruiting etc?

Smacks of yet another team being willfully ignorant, and not sticking to their "values" (I use the term loosely in this regard)
