2nd hand value of Bikes

If your name is pornstar then you can buy a secondhand bike on the hub, "upgrade" it with tired old parts, and sell it for more than a new one.

Or put badges on an unbranded Chinese frame and sell it for a fortune as a premier brand

I see what you getting at! Let's try this.

Merida is best bang for buck and Giant is worst (I.e. You are paying for the name and the "phantom" frame building process)

So when you purchase a Giant at the inflated price, the second hand market automatically adjust the item to the perceived value based on components and frame value. So the more bang for buck item retains its value as perceived by the market.

Don't thank me, buy me beer :)

How much does a bike depreciate or loose value % wise as soon as it "leaves the store"...

Example:

Bike value R15 000 new.

If you wanted to sell it 1month later and its still brand new unridden what will the price be?

I think you should look at about between 50 to 70% getting back.

Depends on supply and demand/ the product (ScottGiantMerida....) Model, ect.

Best bang for buck seems to be the Momsen.

Lovely frame and killer components for a fair price=good value

So your assertion that Santa Cruz is superior to the other brands mentioned is nothing more than you being a brand snob.

No...I do like to be different tho

But the real reason I bought the bike iin 2007 is....

Because they don't change a design for a decade so it has longevity(which helps the resale value)

It got a brilliant write up when it was tested against its peers

I test rode one and was blown away by the handling against Giant,GT and a few others

It has top class components

And...I got it for a good price

Oh and forgot tp mention it has an anodised frame so stlii looks like new

Prob going to sell it now as I have my eye on the new Pyga 0neten

Prob get 15K

Yea , I also think that one looses about 30% of value... depending on brand etc.

Diffrent strokes for diffrent okes..

Some good reasons there Kranswurm

Had a Gaint Carbon XTC in 2008.

Saw one a year or two before, same frame with a spray job on it, after 2008 they had the 2009/10 one and changed the color spray on it. Valid point.
