How far do you go to drop the mass/weight of your bike and body?

I know a guy who pays thousands just to drop 20g or so off his current bike.

Another guy who shaves every part of his body.

Guys joke about only needing one ball and kidney.

Let's hear how far you go to drop weight wherever it is?

A friend of mine started riding with me in February and at one race he saw a Liteville and wanted it. The guy at the shop promised him that the bike will weigh only 10.5kg...super deal done.

End of June he built it up and never listened to a word i told him.

6800 euros later he received his bike with 9 speed XTR parts and used fork on it.........guess what it weighed 12.6kg.

Two days later the shop closed down.

Everytime we ride i show him what he could have bought for half the price and less weight.

He has now bought Ritchey tubbies and he weighs over 110kg

Might be the wrong, might be the right thread.

How much weight does a 'common' carbon frame save compared to a 'common' alu frame? (frame only, not fork)

How much can be saved on Ultegra components, and which of the parts to "do" first?

edit: this is for a road bike. The MTB is a steel SS, and weight is not a consideration, just grins!

Made my wife drag truvativ noir xc carbon cranks all the way back fom London for me - in her hand luggage, 800g - with bb. They look good on my carbon gt zaskar with my sid wc 2010 forks i just bought off Drider. Kcnc stem & flat bars, romin saddle, sram hollow link chain, xt cassette, xt derralleur and american classic wheels are the lightish bits. The avid juicy 3 brakes, slx shifters, slx front derailure, and ritchey comp seatpost let the bike down. 10.1kgs - it's a large. Candy 1 pedals

Cannondale CAAD10 Alu=1190gr

Cannondale Evo Carbon= 700gr

Going to Dura-ace from Ultegra will save about 350gr

Reminds me of when I bought my Zipp Vumaquad cranks - 545g including BB at 175mm length.

Next steps for me are skewers, stem and bottle cages.

Can save 78g on the skewers for R10/gram.

48g on the stem.

and then 60g on bottle cages at R15/gram.

That'll bring the bike down to 7.12kg with ksyriums and a 12-25.

And 6.91kg with Zipp 303's and an U16 cassette.

Regular fasting rides of 90 -120 mins, low intensity, to burn fat.

Biggest gain can be by keeping body weight down without losing power.

True, but is a mission to get the weight down and to keep it there :cursing:
