BUT

Taking a diuretic increases the amount of salt and water excretion from your body, i.e. it makes you pee more and along with all this pee and supposed banned stuff your body is also excreting other minerlas at an increased rate.

Doesn't make sense to me for a pro cyclist to want to do this during a 3 week major tour

yep I agree it's pretty odd for Franck to test positive a. at this point in his career and b. at a tour he has stated openly he does not intend to contest. Unless he was planning on going for a stage win in the pyrenees and needed to mask some kind of recovery agent like testosterone. The risk vs. reward seems very disproportionate though and we have to assume he would know that this substance is highly detectable.

The substance itself is useful for dropping weight in a hurry and is apparently used by athletes that need to get under a given weight limit in a hurry. You could in theory take in a lot of liquids from the point of taking the stuff in order to offset the diuretic effect.

Looks very fishy to me for the reasons in my first post. I'd assume there'd be no need for Bruyneel to cough up his missing wages now.

why the schleck are people suprized every year when the pro's get cuaght for doping it HAPPENS EVERY YEAR!!!!!!! They should just stop testing these nutters and let them be.

Amen, brother. Let the doctors back in to make sure no one dies, and we're all happy as pigs in poop, or is that as happy as ostriches in the sand?

Interesting, pretty much the same thing last year. Apparently the classification gives you the ability to show it was a harmless mistake (as opposed to a Miss-Steak).

The code states that when an athlete can prove use of a specified substance was not intended to enhance sport performance, bans can be replaced with reprimands.

There is a precedent from last year's Tour when Alexandr Kolobnev tested positive for another, more common diuretic, Hydrochlorothiazide.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport cleared Kolobnev in February, ruling the Katusha rider's positive test for the diuretic was "justified by medical reasons totally unrelated to sport performance.."

Kolobnev was able to prove to CAS he bought an over-the-counter medication in Russia two weeks before the race, and had it with him in France.

We can’t compare this to the usual doping issue. Frankie didn’t test positive. He was non-negative! That translates to: “He is not gesuip. He is inebriated!”

But really, this suing someone for poisoning is an interesting one. I wonder on who’s advice he ingested “what” product if this person is not linked to the team as they’ve completely distanced themselves from this one hanging sister Schleck out to dry! Almost like chooning him to fight his own battle!

Nice.

Get a fancy enough lawyer to tell them that you did indeed ingest CERA, but it was for medical reasons, and not intended for sports performance. That was just a happy side effect.

How often do the guys get tested in the tour? Cos this whole saga makes no sense, if they are tested a few times over the tour and one sample comes back clear and another from a day or later comes back positive, if that is the case the guys should be banned not for taking the dope, but for being stupid enough to get caught taking dope during the biggest cycling event of the year.

The magnificent Jens - King of the quote!

"Voigt:

"It's not easy but we'll wait for the b sample and for what Frankie has to say. After all it's many years that I've said he's a good friend of mine. Friendship goes not only in the sunshine but also when it rains. I still believe in him."

Once again, they aren't doping during the tour.

The substances found, like with contador, are things the riders used earlier in the season, and when the transfuse the blood back in, usually on or around the rest days, the stuff shows up. Usually in such small traces, that it isn't detected. As with contador's 400times lower than is usually tested for amount.
